Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all around trail shoe! My first pair of Salomons were this kind of shoe and they lasted me for 5 years until they finally just wore out to where I had to retire them. I was super sad because they were my favorite shoes. I loved them so much that I had to purchase another pair of the same shoe. They are great shoes all around for any terrain and activity. Hiking, walking, running, scrambling up rocks, anything. They are comfortable, light, durable, have good traction, and repel water well. I've had such a good experience with them that I will only purchase Salomon trail shoes from now on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Walking on a cloud I have been gradually transitioning to Salomon for all of my athletic footwear. I utilize these for everyday casual wear and walking or light hiking. They are bar none, the best all around casual shoe (we called them sneakers in my youth) I have ever owned. They are true to size and require absolutely no breaking in period. Straight out of the box, I wore them with no problems whatsoever. During the first week of ownership, I went on a 7 1/2 mile walk/hike. I had no discomfort and no blisters. The built-in natural orthotic arch is amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfort I purchased these in July for a hike on the AT in August. Comfort out of the box. I'm currently wearing them at work to break them in. Will definitely get another pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Salomon is all I ever run in now Fits true to size. I have to wear higher socks to cover the outside of my ankle bone to prevent rubbing, but other than that, great shoe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hiking I bought these last month for my wife. Yesterday we did an 5 mile hike in the mountains. Today we did a 7 mile hike up to the Maroon Bells which consisted of a combination of rocks, gravel, and snow. She has no complaints. They gripped well in the snow as well as on the rocks and gravel. They also kept her feet dry while hiking in the snow. Huge pro is that it's a sturdy shoe reducing ankle roll.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible quality These were my 4th pair of Salomon trail runners in as many years, but never again. After my abysmal second pair of Salomon Ultra's I decided to give the brand one more shot with this pair. I'm five weeks in and multiple small middle tread pieces have been falling off for the past week. Granted, my shoes get heavy, daily use, but four weeks to failure is not ok unless you're buying $20 Walmart shoes. Never got a chance to truly test the waterproofing on these (a problem with other Salomon pairs). At any rate, I wouldn't recommend the XA Pros to anyone and they're getting returned ASAP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More Toe Room This is the 2nd pair of these I've bought. The first pair I've had for 4 years and they still work great when on more leisure hikes without the weight of a pack. I bought a new pair for more support to hike in and out of the Grand Canyon in October. So many people have mentioned problems with other shoes not having enough room in the toe after swelling on longer hikes. These have a hard toe with more roof room in the shoe than any others I've tried on.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pain in ankle after several miles When I've been trying them in store, the shoes seem to be very convenient, nothing really causes any concerns. The first day I tried them there was a rain, dirty several mile trail etc. The shoes shown themselves very good, especially the traction. The next day, though, when I was going to put them on, I felt the pain in the areas of the ankles. The top parts of the shoes, which are supposedly meant for the support, are too stiff and stick into the leg. It feels ok at first, but the shoes are certainly not for the regular use.

What's the difference between ClimaShield waterproof liners and Gortex liners? Is one just as waterproof as the other?

Asked by: RBEmily
I have the XA Comp 7 and XA Pro 3D both with climashield and they are anything BUT waterproof. Salomon's previously (5+ years ago), were Gortex, and continued to be very waterproof, until shoeworn out.  I don't believe that they at all that they are equal!

What is meant by light trail and off trail? Which shoes would be best for gravel, rocks and mountain trails?

Asked by: Anna Pete
Light trail is great for general trail running, but off-trail shoes are designed for much more rugged conditions with no trail. These shoes are a great choice for gravel, rocks, and mountain trails.

How big is the toe box and is there arch support in these shoes? Please explain the foot to heel drop. What does that mean?

Asked by: Susan
Based on reviews, these shoes have a normal width in the toe box and great arch support. The drop of a shoe represents the difference between the height of the heel and the height of the toe.

I just got these and the right shoe gives me a blister on the heel. I've probably hiked 10 miles in them. Do they take a while to break in?

Asked by: Mpell
These shoes will have a short break in period and we suggest trying them on a couple more hikes. If you are not satisfied after that, please consider returning them to your local REI. You can use the following link to our return policy:
