Rated 5 out of 5 by from Snuggly Warm Boots - You Gotta Buy These!!! :-) We just had our first snow in Maryland today. Knowing this small storm was coming, I purchased these boots at the REI in Columbia. MD yesterday. The saleswoman was ultra helpful and patient as I narrowed down my choice to two boots... this boot and a boot by Vasque that comes in a wide width. I usually wear size 8W or 8.5W, but I bought this pair in size 9 because it felt best with my orthotics and my feet had plenty of room. These boots did not let me down today as I shoveled my driveway! They are snuggly warm and they have this furry lining on the inside that feels so wonderful! :-) I love these boots! So glad that REI has decided to carry this Kodiak line of products. I highly recommend buying these boots!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great in the snow I bought these just before 12 inches of snow fell in Portland and I'm so glad I did! The tread has a good grip and I can walk on the snow with ease and confidence, even when it's been packed down. They are pretty good on the ice too, though I do slip around a little bit. They keep my feet warm and are quite comfortable. I would say they are true to size. Normally wear 10-10.5, but I got these in size 11 since I knew I'd be wearing thick socks under them. Fit just right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Snowboots I can trust I had a great pair of Northface boots that I bought many years ago for a trip to Alaska. When they wore out, I bought another pair of Northface that falsely claimed to grip ice. I decided to find a new pair of boots that were as good as my old ones were. So far, I have been very pleased with the Kodiak boots. They keep my feet warm, are the perfect weight (not too heavy or too light) and think they will give me the grip I need when sidewalks are icy. I would love a zipper option, but the ties are not presenting any issues.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from runs small!!! I wear an 8 and these were way too small even with thin socks. Toe box was narrow. I would go an entire size up--especially with thicker socks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent boots! Just got these a few days ago and only wore them for the first time today. They've made a great first impression! These are very well insulated and I expect them to be warm enough for just about anything. It was not terribly cold when I wore them today but it was very wet, alternating snow and rain, and the waterproofing really is waterproof-absolutely no problems. These are super lightweight and very comfortable, even just out of the box. For stars rather than five because I have a narrow foot through the heel and these boots are a bit wide at my heel. However, the looseness at the heel wasn't terribly irritating and, more importantly, it didn't result in any rubbing or blistering. I don't think that anyone even makes narrow width snow boots of similar style and quality (I haven't been able to find any anyway) so I'll accept a slightly loose fit through the heels. I expect that I'll be very happy with these boots for years to come.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pointed toe box; beware. If I had seen a decent picture of the toe box, I would have never ordered these. They are very pointy. The pointed toe box aside, they run small. I recommend ordering a full size bigger in order to accommodate a wool sock. The reviews about them running small were not available when I ordered these or I would not have. A size 11 fits like a 10.

Would these be good for snowshoeing?

While not ideal, you can use these boots for snowshoeing. You may want to consider a winter hiking boot instead:

Some people wear thick socks, when less active, to ensure warmth (Temperature ratings are approximate...). So does a normally size 7 person expect these boots to accomodate a thick sock, or should we buy size 8?

Asked by: Ed Morgan
We find most people fit these boots true to size when wearing a fairly thick mid-weight sock. Everyone is different though, so we cannot guarantee a perfect fit. It will depend in part on your foot shape and how thick a sock you choose.

Is this boot compatible with snowshoes? Does have the snowshoe grip on the back and also have an attachment loop for gaiters? If not - please suggest that a women's boot that has these features. Thanks.

Asked by: FCColorado
These boots can be used with snowshoes, but they do not have a snowshoe grip or a gaiter loop. However, a winter hiking boot will be much more supportive and comfortable while snowshoeing, so you may want to consider a hiking boot instead:
