Black IceBug Women’s Boots
I received this product of Women’s IceBug Winter boots in late August on a 100 degree day, so I waited to review. It’s early Fall now in Wisconsin with temperatures high 60’s, but I was excited to try on these boots; the fit was slightly big for normal Women’s size 8, so I have extra space to wear thick socks. They are waterproof but around zipper area there seems to have slight water penetration. I really liked the extra safety studs on bottom of boots for grip/ traction in snow/ dirt/ mud. I tested them on dirt/ mud since I did not have snow yet, and they will definitely protect the wearer from slips/ falls! I can’t wait to wear in actual snow conditions and will definitely use for Icy surfaces for my walking/ hiking/ shoveling. Wisconsin Winters are long and snowy so these boots with thick water repellant soles and calf length, water resistant quilted design are ideal! The front zipper on the boot is a sturdy one, so shouldn’t break. However the boots are stiff for movement on longer hikes as I tested this by dirt paths by a river area. I was impressed with the fact they were made with a low carbon imprint. I recommend these boots for mud/ ice/ snow conditions; they are warm and will protect the wearer from slips/ falls!
Really light weight
Favorite thing about these is that they are light weight. They are not bulky or clunky, they are as comfortable as wearing tennis shoes. For my feet, they are too narrow for very thick socks, but don’t think thick socks are necessary.
Lightweight, warm and comfortable.
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I haven't had a chance to try these on ice yet since I received them in September but they are warm and very lightweight. I sized up to wear with heavy socks and they seem to fit true to size. I'm sure they will be very sure-footed with the studded sole and I'm looking forward to both hiking and running errands in the winter. They are the lightest warm boots I've ever had. The zipper is sturdy and the loop at the back makes them easy to get on or off. The studded sole feels ok on a bare floor - I was concerned about wearing them indoors but I think it will be fine.
Great lightweight boot for winter adventures!
I'm so excited to use these boots this winter! They're comfy, super lightweight, and best of all are super stable on ice and packed snow. I actually took them out to a snowfield in the Rockies to test them out, and was really impressed with the performance. The soles have built-in traction so they grip incredibly well, without the bulk and annoyance of external traction. The only snow they didn't do super well on was steep slush, but really not many boots or traction do super well on that type of snow, so I don't think it's a deal-breaker. The boots themselves are warm and have plenty of room for thick socks, and are surprisingly comfortable to walk around in. Note that that does mean that they feel a little big if you're wearing non-winter-weight socks. Also did I mention how LIGHT they are??? I got these thinking they would be relegated to work boots for shoveling snow and other winter chores, but after wearing them I'll be adding them to my arsenal for winter hiking, too.
Best used on snowpacked sidewalks
The soles of these boots have tiny spikes for grip, so I'm really looking forward to wearing these when walking our dog on icy or snowpacked sidewalks and roads this winter. I would be hesitant to wear them on clean sidewalks, since I'd be worried about keeping the spike integrity and not wearing them down unnecessarily. They're really easy to put on and take off, though they are a little roomier in the upper than I'm used to. Wearing a thicker sock didn't really make a difference, so these are definitely best used in urban settings or paved/flat trails.
Great for errands
The zipper closure makes them easy to take on and off for a quick trip out to the car or shed. Kept my feet dry. Did well on the thin ice typical of fall weather. Fit fairly well but a little wide for my narrower feet. I just wore thicker socks and they fit great. Has some give so i could tuck my pants in if needed to keep them dry.
Best for women with skinny legs.
The studs on the bottom were excellent and worked well. Overall though, the boot was very tight in the upper part and would work best if you had really skinny lets, but for me it felt like they were cutting off my circulation when zipped. So, I unzipped on our walk and ended up with a blister. Though I loved the ice grip, I ended up returning.
too narrow - so disappointed
These were great boots except way too narrow -- couldn't zip them up with socks and impractical to wear without socks. Men's don't come in a small enough size to try -- so disappointed -- please fix or make a wide.
Gift for a Freqent Faller
These were a gift for someone living in the Northeast. She kept slipping and falling on the ice. The kicker was falling and hitting her head 3 days ago. Was able to find these beauties and expedite shipping and she got them 2 days after order (I was frantic). They are an expensive but much cheaper than a fracture or concussion!
