Competent Cutting Board and Knife

I purchased the large and glad I did. I intend to use it for small family/group camping or pick-nicks. The knife stays secure to the magnet, and the latch to keep the board folded is sufficient. It's a decent knife for the price with a cutting board. The piano hinge on the bottom is nice, because it will maintain the boards alignment better over time, compared to 2 smaller hinges, one at each end. The only real draw back is the cutting board is RAW WOOD. You will need to condition it before using and cleaning. If you don't, it can easily warp from cleaning with water and retain residue and smells. Buy mineral oil and be liberal in it's application. The board will soak up plenty. It may take a few coats, a few hours or days apart before the board takes in about as much as its going to. It's easy to unscrew all the parts with a standard #2 cross tip screwdriver to condition all the wood surfaces adequately. Depending on how often you use it, you'll need to reapply mineral oil (months or even years depending on storage).

Cool concept but warped on first use

Was stoked to get this as a gift for my boyfriend, and was even more excited when it arrived. Cutting board is nice, knife works well. However, after using it on a camping trip, gently hand washing the cutting side of it, drying off and laying flat to dry (not soaking it in any way), the board warped so much that it wouldn't latch together. Not sure if we got a lemon, returned it.

If you only carry one cooking tool

I have had this knife set for about 6 years, and absolutely love it. I travel to various countries with my truck and this fantastic item has gone everywhere with me. It has a very sharp (of course, because it is Japanese made) knife that I keep quite sharp (good thing with extra time at camp) and a cutting board that carries the knife. Once folded, it takes no room, really, but earns its keep as a vital tool onboard. When traveling light, everything I have has to 'earn its keep' and this does it quite well. Overall, you can't go wrong. Also, if you have a coupon and a dividend, why not now?

Envy of my Expedition

Terrific item. Everyone was envious on my 15 person expedition. So much so I had to give it away as an award for the instructors. I will buy another. The knife is excellent. Board is perfect.

Elegant little camping cutting board!

This I got for camping but I am using for kitchen too. Its new wood and NEEDS to be oiled before use of it will warp! Its worth it to get some good food grade mineral oil and give it a good first treatment before using. Plus the mineral oiling brings out the wood pattern nicely and gives it a quality look and feel to it. It seems like the board will get better with age too! The knife is pretty sharp. Its a western handled Santoku type knife; found in every kitchen in Japanese homes. Its a double beveled knife. Its a pretty nice quality knife for being a camp knife. The hardware on the board itself is nice too, the hinge is long single piece, I guess they call a "door" hinge? The latch to keep it closed it quality too but can catch on table or what ever you lay it down on opened up, a little so watch for that. The cut outs in the board are well done too, mineral oil will smooth out any roughness. The magnet that hold the knife inside the board is pretty good keeping knife in place. Such a nice elegant addition to a car camp or in RV cooking kit! Makes for a very nice gift.

Great Quality

Perfect size for camping. There's magnet inside of cutting board to protect unexpected dropping of this small knife. Snow Peak is well known company providing camping gear with great quality in Japan. I highly recommend this product to who look for cutting board and small knife bundle.

The product is defective

I am really disappointed that one of the product is defective. It is out of my expectation that the shop would provide me like this. How would the shop allow it to deliver out to the customer?

Clever cutting borad & knife case

I do a fair amount of camping but don't have some large pick-up to load up with gear. So, I am always looking for clever space efficient gear and, this fit the bill. I ordered the large model and when I received it, it was exactly what I wanted. I really like how the knife stored inside the cutting board and when closed the knife is safely secured. Overall I'm happy with the purchase and can't wait to put it to use!

Sweet set

A friend of mine owns the medium version, and it felt a bit small. This one on the other hand is perfect! It feels like I’m cooking right at home, but doesn’t take that much space in my gear box. The knife is super sharp right out the box and the magnet inside makes me feel safe when I open the cutting board. I also wrap the knife with a paper towel when taking it back home so it won’t be too much of a hassle to clean it when I get back.

Very Sharp

Love the design of knife inside cutting board. Caution knife is very sharp. My cutting board is slowly warping after 1 wash. Wash and dry it in closed position from now on.
