[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Wow! I am extremely happy with my new OXO Outdoor Santoku Knife with Locking Sheath! This amazing knife slices right through any type of meat with hardly any effort at all! The rubberized handle makes it so easy to grip when cutting. I love that OXO includes a locking sheath with this Santoku Knife to protect the blade and hands when not in use. This awesome knife and sheath is made with quality materials so I know it will last! I truly recommend this product!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Like most people, I have several kitchen knives, in all different sizes, for all types of tasks. I tend to consistently grab the same two over and over to chop up ingredients for whatever epicurean delight I'm making for dinner. A good sharp knife makes the prep so much easier. Luckily, OXO once again, has come through for me, with the OXO Outdoor 5.5-in Santoku Knife with Locking Sheath! Now, I'm not much of an outdoor cook or a camper, so when I first saw the OXO recycled cardboard label with the word "OUTDOOR" on this knife I was a little skeptical. I just wanted a utensil that was going to help me cut up an onion and garlic easily for my beef stroganoff recipe, with very little effort. The bonus I thought, was the Locking Sheath that would also protect the blade as it sits in my kitchen drawer. So I gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised how extremely sharp the stainless steel Asian-style chef's knife was. Cutting up those onions and garlic the very first time I used it, was so effortless. The notches in the blade helped to prevent the veggies from sticking, and equally important, was the control I have with the very comfortable non-slip handle. This knife has really proven itself over and over. From cutting up broccoli, cauliflower or peppers, to shredding cabbage or mincing fresh parsley, everything I have used this knife for, has clearly been a cut above all others! It's a proven winner!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received OXO Outdoor 5.5in Santoku Knife with Locking Sheath In exchange for my honest review. I love everything made by OXO but this knife surpassed my expectations. The knife cover has a super smart locking mechanism that keeps it on without slipping. The plastic that is used for the cover is of a very good quality and looks nice. We took it to few camping trips and it didn't fall off while sitting in the camping bag. I'm absolutely sure that it will last us a very long time. The weight of the knife is just right for my hand and the handle is not slippery even when my hands are wet. I had another knife for our camping trips before that I was not so happy with. Its cover never stayed on and I had to have it in a zip lock to avoid cutting myself when unpacking. I know that it certainly won't happen with this knife. OXO Outdoor 5.5in Santoku Knife with Locking Sheath is so easy to use it and is a great knife overall. I think that everyone should have it for their camping needs.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love everything about the OXO Outdoor Santoku Knife. This knife has a 5.5-inch steel blade that is very sharp and durable. It does not matter what I am slicing with this knife; it cuts through it like it is butter! I can cut meat, fish, fruits, or vegetables with a single swipe. I love that nothing sticks to the blade, making it simple and fast to slice and dice. The wide blade makes it easy to scoop up whatever I am cutting and place it into my pan or bowl. The non-slip rubber handle fits comfortably in my hand. The stainless steel blade is protected by a full plastic sheath that has a locking mechanism. This is the first time I have ever seen this on a knife, and I am impressed with how it keeps the plastic sheath from slipping off the knife. It not only protects the blade and helps to keep it sharp, but it protects my fingers and hands when I am digging around for the knife in my drawer. This knife should be hand washed with hot soapy water and hand dried. I use this knife every time I cook. It is so amazing!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sharp! Perfect size for all kinds of utility cutting, slicing, carving, etc. I was really impressed with how effortlessly it glides through everything, from overripe fruit to fresh bread to economy cuts of meat. Not just for outdoors, although the locking sheath does make it more convenient and safe to take along. The locking sheath is a brilliant idea and I wish all my knives had that extra feature. While it doesn't actually "lock" and it won't prevent little hands from eventually prying it off, it does offer something of a deterrent, and that's a plus. My new favorite go-to knife for everything. Love the safer-feeling grip too.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This knife is amazing! My favorite part of the blade cover was the little safety lock that kept it in place. It is perfect for cutting fruits and vegetables. I use it in the garden too, as does my husband. We were impressed by the quality of the knife, and it even cut a Cantaloupe smoothly.
I bought this knife intending to use it for a camp set - the sheath seemed useful to me. However, it's very short and feels it - especially if you use a pinch grip, which cuts the usable blade down to 4-ish inches. Most of the weight felt like it was in the handle, too, which throws the balance off with a pinch grip given the relative length of the blade to handle. For about the same price, I replaced it with a 7" santoku and cover from a restaurant supply store, which worked better for me.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The OXO Outdoor 5.5in Santoku Knife with Locking Sheath is great for several reasons. First, and most important, is that it is sharp. It cuts and slices through food with ease. I tend not to use multiple knives at a time to save on clean up so I have used this from chopping up herbs to skinning and dicing raw sweet potatoes. The grip is comfortable and is solid so there won't be any kind of coating flaking off (unlike my expensive, supposedly high-quality knife set). This also has a locking sheath so it is safe for carrying around and travel, plus it keeps the knife protected as well. I could use a whole set like this.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The OXO outdoor Santorum Knife is a knife you can use on so many of your cooking items. It is a great quality knife. We have used this knife on meats and vegetables, and each time we have used it, it cuts right through with ease. The knife blade is stainless steel, and that helps so no food sticks on it when cutting. It comes with a sheath that locks, so no need to worry about it coming off. It is very easy to handle with the non slip handle. We LOVE using this knife.
Besides the locking sheath, this is a pretty standard mid-range prep knife. The locking sheath is handy for making sure you don't cut yourself rifling around in the camp-kitchen bin, but otherwise this is what it is. OXO didn't even really brand it differently than the stuff you can get at any major grocery store utensil aisle with the exception of adding the word "outdoor." If you were building a camp kitchen from a one-stop-shop at REI it would be a worthwhile purchase, but otherwise there's not a lot of value added to this line.
