I finally wore out my Cascadias, so when this came up on sale at my local REI store, I jumped on it. Brooks fit my feet really well, and the support from this shoe is just right - stronger than those minimalist, but less that a full-bore trail shoe. I use from everything from trail walking to workouts to travel. My old Cascadias had trouble with the stitching blowing out along the toe line; these look like they are glued/welded, so I am hoping the hold up better. Three cheers the Brooks for making a liveable toe box, and that neat little shoelace catch that keeps the tongue from crawling down the outside of my foot!
I have run on Ghost 7s for a year and like them, but they are not a strong shoe, at 225 and 6feet I missed a firm feel of the ground. The Ghost 8s really fill that gap and offer a comfortable support ride that gives great confidence. I have the Hoka shoes and they are just too padded, these are a great fit.
I needed a shoe that was a little wider in the ball of the foot and this shoe fits the bill. Even though it is a standard width, the toe bed is quite roomy. I mostly road run and this shoe has been great at absorbing the impact from concrete and asphalt.
While I save my final review for how they wear 2-3 months after use, I am happy to report that 3 weeks into using these for an every other day run, they are feeling good and holding up fine. I run 4-6 miles each run on pavement and these have been a good shoe so far. Since I heard Brooks runs small, I ordered a 12 instead of 11.5 and it was spot on, so I recommend non-Brook wearers order a half-size up.
I just started running in these last week after putting a couple hundred miles on my prior Ghosts, which i love/d!. The cushion in these feels good after having run through my prior kicks. With these 8's I kind of feel like my right foot is poorly supported on the outboard side as I've been experiencing some tightness / cramping there in only the first couple of miles. After a few more miles it is fine, so it could just be me. I would consider another pair though as I'm a Brooks fan.
I bought Ghost 8's and Ghost 9's at the same time. Both initially felt good. However, halfway through a four mile run, I noticed a rough spot inside both shoes near where the big toe meets the side of the shoe. Upon close inspection, there is overlapping material and stitching at that point. That is just a bad and avoidable design. The shoes were not particularly tight and were sized well. Just enough friction to cause blisters. The Ghost 9, happily, doesn't have this problem.
These shoes are almost perfect for my workout classes. Maybe a little stiff. I like the color and the sale price.
The most comfortable pair of shoes that I have worn so far. Great heel support. Feel more confident in my posture and do not have to shift from side-to-side when standing for a long period of time. If I could find these again I will get another pair as back up.
Unfortunately I ordered 1/2 size larger but still was to tight. So I returned them. I've ordered a new on 1 1/2 larger and hope they won't be to large. So without actually running in them I would suggest ignoring my product rating.
Brooks Ghost is a great Shoe. Fits me well, Stiff heel, Wears well.
