Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disgusting... straight up... I eat everything in the woods. I forage, I bring dehydated ingredients to combine into meals, I even do a lot w/ these pre-packaged meals. And I generally am able to finish all of the latter. But not this one. This is quite bluntly, the worst dehydrated meal I've ever encountered. It appears to be a collection of excess ingredients and mirrors exactly ZERO non-backwoods recipes I've ever encountered. The peas -- for some reason -- are EXCEPTIONALLY offensive. I realize that sentence will not make sense when you read it; all I can say is that you will have to experience it for yourself to get the gist. All in all Alpine Aire makes competent meals -- this one, however, should be abandonded, discontinued or otherwise outlawed. Let it be known, SGS

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not as sweet as the flavor implies I bought this meal with impression it was going to be sweet, and full of flavor. Major disappointment. Flavor was more on the bland side and could hardly tell there was any pineapple, orange or chicken. It was mostly rice, mushroom and peas. I couldn't even finish the meal.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can be eaten. No flavor, even the pineapple did not have any flavor. The stuff is eatable but that is about all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pineapple Orange Chicken is A-OK When you need variety in your menu, this is a great addition to your backcountry menu. Totally disagree with the prior review comments. We were pleasantly surprised when we tested this for a pending thru-hike application. We believe in variety, variety, variety for backcountry dinners. For us, the Pineapple Orange Chicken a great addition to our backcountry inventory.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible This was the worst tasting freeze dried meal I have ever had. It didn't cook evenly, it tasted incredibly sweet, almost like candy, and was not what I wanted after a grueling hike up the mountain. Stick with the basics, they tried to get way too fancy with this one.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bland!!! Glad I ate it at home even after dumping the spice rack to it I was disappointed. Really falls short of the anticipated experience.

Listed as gluten-free but has wheat as a component of the soy sauce powder?

Asked by: BCSKeizer
We have been in touch with AlpineAire regarding this question. AlpineAire uses a different soy and it is not the wheat based seen elsewhere. They have also stated the following: "Although our Gluten Free AlpineAire Foods are packaged in our facility that handles wheat products, our dedicated Allergen Program ensures no cross contamination. Allergen Program operating procedures include, identifying raw materials that contain allergens then color coding and storing allergens separately into a color coded designated allergen area. Productions runs are dedicated to gluten free production first. All equipment is thoroughly washed and sanitized. We utilize a dust collection system to minimize airborne contaminates throughout our facility. Our gluten free product recipes have been tested at third party labs to ensure integrity. All test results have shone less than 5ppm well under industry standards. We have been producing and marketing Gluten Free products for 10 years; in that time not one negative reaction has ever been reported to us. We believe strongly that our Gluten Free products provide a safe solution for many."
