Its not a Pelican Elite... but it is Stanely Tough

I needed a good cooler for daily fishing adventures. I did not need this cooler to be huge or to keep ice for days... but it did need to keep things cold minimum a day. The cooler needed to be tough and long lasting. I don't plan to abuse it... but I do not like buying things over and over again. Initially I was looking to buy another Pelican Elite cooler, but the smaller 20QT model... That is until I came across this Stanley 16QT cooler. After reading many reviews, I went to my local REI to check it out. After seeing it in person, I had a few concerns... but I purchased it anyhow. Glad I did... This cooler was only $65 at REI, Amazon has it for less... but I had some credit I needed to use at REI and members would get that back to break even :). Plus I get the REI service... Amazon is good, but REI is local :). $60 compared to $200 for the 20QT pelican elite was also a nice way to save money. That comes at a loss of 4 QTs and durability. This cooler is not pelican elite tough nor will it keep ice as long... but it has enough storage and will keep things cold for over a day. The Stanley cooler's weak points is that it is assembled with multiple parts.. .The hinges, the clasps, to body, and the handle even... All can break. I can see them failing with force, accidental or foolishness. The pelican is safe from those things by a much higher margin. In Stanley's defense, it has a life time warranty. You don't get that with any other cooler in its price and class. KUDOS to Stanley. Even more, the Stanley cooler is designed with real world use in mind. I love the bungee cord on the lid. I use this cooler on my kayak and have another place to keep things tide down. I can use the cooler as a seat... but we do that with all ridged coolers right?! The latches are easy to open and close, yet keep the lid on securely. The seal/gasket on the lid is very nice and something you do not find on coolers in this class. I successfully kept fish in this cooler for over 12 hours after catching them... The cooler was in use for a lot longer. The mostly water... and ice, was "ICE" cold..., Bone chilling cold when I took the fish out. The cooler was easy to clean out and had no smell of fish afterwards. No... this cooler is not a pelican or a yeti... but it is just what I needed. I use it along side my pelican elite 35QT. The Stanley cooler is small, portable, easy to chill in the refrigerator, stays cold, is tougher than most typical coolers, and has warranty that will get you a new one if it fails. I am happy to have this cooler and impressed how well it has worked for me. No more cooler bags as this works so much better

Doesn't anyone else drink beer here? You cant close the top of this cooler with a bottle of beer (or Nalgene) standing up! I don't understand how this could have been missed. Everything stays cold and it is a tough cooler but I can't overlook this issue.

Great cooler for the price

I have had several coolers of the years. I live in central Texas, and summers here are HOT. Having a cooler that keeps your food cool is critical. This cooler still has ice and the food is still cool/cold after three-day trips. I also love the locking latches, even though they can be difficult to (un)do, but they are also raccoon-proof. :-) The elastic on the top can be removed so that you can lash lightweight items to the top. The cooler is on the heavy side for the size of it, but I would assume that is from the interior insulation that makes it work so well. It's mean for car camping anyway, so weight isn't nearly as important as it would be for say, backpacking.

super happy

I just picked up this cooler for a camping trip. We were in California and the weather was super hot and the cooler spent most of the day baking in a bear locker so the ice did melt daily. However, when not in extreme heat, it had no issue keeping things cold. What was really great was that the seal was super strong so when there was water inside, it never leaked. We took it from the locker to my car for a long and windy road trip to a hardwood floor and it never leaked. If this is the size cooler you're interested in and you don't need an insulated product, you'll be happy with this one for sure!

Sadly, it broke in les than 15 minutes

I was VERY much looking forward to this new cooler. I was intrigued by its claim to keep things cold for a long time. My old (10 years?) cooler just couldn't keep ice and drinks cold beyond a day. I got the package yesterday, opened it up did a quick clean (not that it looked dirty), and put some 16 oz drinks and ice cubes in it. When I picked it up, the handle snapped completely in two right where the upright meets the handle. I know Stanley has a great warranty but, if the cooler broke in less than 15 minutes, how can I trust another one unless the handle has been redesigned? Sadly, back to REI it goes. (FYI 16.9 oz beverages can not be put in upright because the lid won't close)

Can't hold ice

Re-Filled the cooler with ice at 4:00pm. 70° outside and cooler already filled earlier with ice and cold beverages. 6:30 pm and mostly water in the cooler. For $70, highly dissatisfied.

Holds drinks cold but not durable

I had this cooler for about two weeks, it keept all my waters cold during my 10 hour shifts at work. The only complaint I have is that I had expected it to be more sturdy, it fell off a table and the rear joint that alows it open up broke off it and now the cooler is usless unable to seal properly. Other Cheap low quality coolers can take more abuse in my opinion

Good for a couple years

I bought this cooler 2-3 years ago. It has been good (though difficult to close the latches). Today I was washing it out after a trip and noticed a break in the inside plastic. It's toast now I guess. At least it is recyclable.

Stanley 16qt cooler

Bought this little cooler in hopes I wouldn't have to dive in the world of "those" expensive coolers, boy how wrong I was. Didn't have the cooler for a month when the inner cooler started to separate from the outer shell. I pushed the two halves back together and that worked for a while. Ultimately the two halves would not go back into place making it impossible to close. The latches are a joke, depending on the weather those things are fingertip busters. So finally bought one of "those" expensive Yetis and I couldn't be happier. I guess you get what you pay for.

Nothing but good things to say

Bought this cooler over a yr ago; I’m a mom of 2, I use thins thing pretty much daily... play dates, sports events, meal preps for myself... I’m impressed. I haven’t felt let down at all, in fact because of this cooler & it’s smaller little brother the 7Q, I have become a big fan of Stanley products. I remember my Grandpa using an old Stanley thermos in the 70’s & 80’s & my mom still travels today with that thing & she’s never had a problem. That’s quality. Now I’m also a very big fan of Yeti, and I can easily report this cooler has done as well as our more expensive Yeti Flip 12 for just a fraction of the price. So, yes, I’d buy another one.

Superior lunch box

I had the old Stanley lunch box with 1.1 at on top and always carried my 24oz Stanley soup thermos. So when the handle broke I was so surprised Stanley stood behind their product but they stopped marking my lunch box so I got the adventure cooler and choose 16qt as it would now hold both my Stanley bottles. Now I read some reviews while waiting and I have had mine for 2 weeks I love it , mine has grooves so handle is not floppy when carrying , and packing for a full 9 hours at job then I go to night school this thing is awsome , before I knew about the warrenty I was using a igloo playmate and it's basically same size inside of that helps
