Perfect for large trail runner

I had a hard time finding a hydration system that would work for me. I am 6'1" 250 and love to run trails. The issue is that I need a lot of water and nutrition on my long training runs and most Hydration Vests do not fit me well. This one does. I have plenty of room to carry everything I need and the fit is great. This bag wears like a vest and is why I choose it over a regular hydration pack. I just ran a trail marathon last weekend with it and it worked great. I will be wearing next weekend for a 50k trail race. Great product.

Comfortable and Light Daypack

All around good day pack. Took it with me to Mt. St. Helens, and through the Ape Caves south of the mountain. The built in water bladder is 2.5L and was plenty for my needs. I did bring along a water bottle that I dropped some electrolyte tablets in that I was able to store easily in the side pockets. The bag adjusted easily and fit snugly to my back, I do advise making sure you get your appropriate size (S/M or M/L) as it does make a big difference. The only downside I found was the lack of any sort of organizational pockets within the bag, but that is pretty typical of a lot of lightweight or ultra-light bags. The left strap has a water resistant pocket for your phone which is pretty handy, however anyone carrying any phone on the larger size might have some difficulty sliding it in the pocket. Overall I enjoyed the bag

Beyond Excellent

This is an absolutely fantastic pack! I bought it in 2015, and have used it in every capacity imaginable, from hiking, biking, running, skiing, mountaineering, and traveling. I have stuffed it beyond it's intended weight limit, dropped it, drug it, thrown it, fallen on it, and carried it all over the world, and it is still in excellent condition. I've carried 30 pounds of gear in it with no sign of strain. The only part of the pack that's showing any sort of wear is the lower back area, where it rubs on my belt--but that's to be expected over time. The hydration system is really useful, as you can remove the bladder from the hose. Overall, this is a well made, well designed, reliable product. If you're looking for a day pack, this is it!

Love this pack!

I already own an Osprey Rev 6 for trail running, and I was looking to downsize my daypack for fast and light long distance day hiking. The Osprey Rev 18 fit the bill. The pack fits like a vest, so the pack move with you when scrambling or running. It also can hold A LOT. On this weekend's hikes / scrambles (20+ miles), I was able to stuff my S/M pack with 2.5L water (in the reservoir), wallet, keys, water filter, down vest, long sleeve shirt, short sleeve shirt, rain shell, PLB, hat, first aid kit, map, compass, swim suit, pack towel, head net, Nuun, lunch, gaiters, sunglasses, headlamp, monocular, and more in the two main compartments of the pack. The side pockets are easily accessible without removing the pack, and I had them stuffed with a water bottle in one and sunblock, DEET, and hand sanitizer in the other. The waistbelt pockets are roomy and stretchy. I was able to fit four bars in one and left the other mostly empty. I was also able to find places for my GPS (carabinered to a loop on the shoulder harness), my camera (carabinered to the strap for the shoulder harness), and my trekking poles (compression straps on the pack). If I had more stuff, I would have not have had a problem finding a place for it. Even more, it didn't feel like I was carrying a lot of weight. The base weight of the pack is only 5oz more than the REI Flash Pack 18 or the Marmot Kompressor, and I feel the additional 5oz is worth the additional features, and makes a great summit pack for backpacking trips as well. The reservoir is easy to access and the quick disconnect location makes it easy to refill without having to remove from the pack. The magnetic stay on the bite valve works well, even when running. The top and middle strap are adjustable so they can be moved up or down to fit your torso. Summary: This is the best pack I have ever owned. I don't usually pay full price for gear, but this one is well worth it!

Terrific Osprey pk, but not quite as advertised.

This is my first hydration pack, meant to be light and fast for day hikes and Nordic touring ski outings of 6 hours or less. I had grown tired of carrying my water bottle in hand or struggling to retrieve it from the water bottle pockets of an ordinary daypack on my back. The water capacity is more than I will use, so I just fill it partially. It's nice to know the extra capacity is available if I have occasion to go on longer or hotter-weather hikes. The water does feel less burdensome when positioned along the back this way instead of in water bottles hanging on the sides of a backpack. I like the length of the pack: (M/L) for my 19" torso, because I like to put more weight on my hips than on my shoulders. Contrary to what another woman said about the front straps, I was able to get the lower strap into a good position using the sliding feature where they attach to the shoulder straps. Its storage space is more than necessary for summer, but will come in handy for the extra warm gear that should be carried in winter. There's really nothing I would say against this pack, except that it does not have the shoulder harness zippered bottle pocket listed in the description. That pocket is available only in the Rev12 and Rev 6 models, according to the package insert. I was really looking forward to using that pocket for a small hot beverage thermos in winter.

Functional but flawed

I have used this pack for hiking, a little bit of trail running, and xc skiing. Cons: Water bladder lid is easy to cross thread without noticing (until you have water running out the bottom of your pack). Pack straps roll and curl in at the bottom, leaving lumps against my chest. Lower sternum strap pulled off while xc skiing last weekend. It can be reattached, but I didn't see that until now. Double sternum strap is excessive for me- I will probably cut one off. No use for phone holder, but at least it's mostly removable. Expensive for a small pack. Pros: "Stuff pockets" on the sides which can be reached while running are very handy, and so far, nothing has fallen out. Small zip pockets in waistbelt are useful. I use one for keys, and the other for light gloves. Pack is roomy but lightweight. Shock cord on the back is handy when everything won't fit inside. Magnetic bite valve holder has worked fine.

Almost but not quite

Usual high quality Osprey design and construction but they missed a couple things. The lower sternum strap will not go below the breasts. Other running pack manufacturers can do this. The pack is unstable without this. Also, the pack is missing the traditional built-in whistle. This version of the hydration bladder is a big improvement with its smaller more easily-turned cap and the tube connection. Unfortunately, you're still stuck with the magnetic, and useless, valve connection. Since I'm mainly using this for skiing, it is not an issue. The magnet on the mtn bike packs does not work under any kind of jarring so I'd assume the same problem with trail running. Recommended with reservations.

The best

This little guy was easily the best purchase I have made in a long time. It was perfect, it sat right on my back and never moved. I was able to stuff plenty of gear for multiple day hikes. I would definitely recommend!
