After purchasing online I returned to the store to have the pack adjusted properly. Unfortunately the pack ships with absolutely no instructions on how to adjust it. As a novice hiker I was clueless. The staff at the store were very helpful and after a few minutes the pack was adjusted properly for me and feels great. When I showed my daughter some of the adjustments, her response was "I never knew that". And she's an avid hiker. Love the pack, feels great, easy to remove and put on. With the waist belt the weight is significantly removed from the shoulders.
When it comes to a daypack for hiking 14ers in Colorado, the Osprey Stratos 24 has it all. I was looking for a more stable and form fitting pack that would not shift or throw me off balance when scrambling over class 2 or class 3 climbs and the Stratos did not disappoint. I had anywhere between 15 to 18lbs in my pack on the way up to Mt. Elbert and with the waist belt it almost felt like I had nothing on my back. There are plenty of compartments to hold my gear and there was just enough space to hold all my layers, snacks and 3L water bladder along with side pockets to hold additional gear and a 32oz Nalgene water bottle. The only knock on this pack is the lack of a cell phone compartment. The waist belt pockets are not large enough to hold a cell phone so I used the chest pocket in my fleece jacket but I would like to see Osprey do more to incorporate this feature as I want quick access to my phone to track progress, take photos and make sure I'm headed in the right direction.
Just what you expect from Osprey packs. Quality construction, great straps and belt, well organized. This is my only baggage for a ten day trip to Sicily!
Very sturdy and well built for a day hike. It has sufficient storage to carry all the essential supplies for a hike with lot of comfort.
