Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Prizes Possession This versatile, light weight, and warm beanie is one of the top prizes in my backpack and everyday carry. I own two. One for the backpack, one for the car. I never leave home without it, regardless of the weather forecast. You never know when you'll need it. It's highly packable. It weighs next to nothing. It is warm. It blocks wind and light rain. And, you can cover your entire ears and the back of your neck if necessary. Makes a great base layer under my Gore-Tex lines North Face Sherpa cap when the weather in the backcountry dips into freezing temps. When I'm not on the trail, it's the perfect daily carry for those chilly and windy days. Get one or two.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from my favorite beanie I've had this hat for about 2 years and it is my favorite, I grab it more than any of my others. It breathes well, is lightweight, low profile. Basically a grown up stocking cap. It's sort of a 'tall' cap, meant to be worn with a fold at the crown of your head. I find it to be slightly too tight in that configuration for extended wear (I do have a fat head, 7-1/4"). It has held up beautifully over several washings, there is no color fading or size distortion. It is a thinner cap, so not super good for very cold or stationary activities, and does not do much to cut the wind. It is sort of spendy for a 'low tech' cap, but since it has held up so well, I think ultimately worth the cost.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprisingly Warm I've used this hat for cold weather running for the past ~3 months. It is surprisingly warm for a technical fabric. I wear it on short, cool runs or longer, cold runs, but in general I grab it when the temp. is <35F. Otherwise I wear an ear warmer. It has plenty of material to fold down to cover the ears and top of the neck easily. The material does a very good job blocking the wind as well. It fits well and isn't too restrictive on my larger-than-average (I think) head. Its style is simple and understated, which I appreciate. One consideration is that I don't think it would work well with a cycling helment due to the excess fabric, though I haven't tried it. I'll stick with my skullcap for cycling and reserve this hat for other cold weather outdoor activities. I'm quite pleased with its performance so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and Warm This product offers quality, function and results. It's a product that fits multiple gaps. The end result is a big win across multiple weather conditions. It takes the chill away when in the 35 plus degree range, and yet buffers the transition up to 70 degrees. I have little hair, so this lightweight "tool" offers comfort, protection and warmth through a broad range of activities…hiking…kayaking…or fishing…big thumbs up on this product…the price is right…so have at least one in you pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thin but warm: recommended! This hat is versatile, thin and warm. I have a large head and it fits great. It's thin enough to fit under a bike helmet. I'm here today to buy my second one so I can have one to wear while the first one is in the wash.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice hat but too tight!! This is a nice and warm hat but it seems to me to be a little too tight. I like my hats to be snug but this hat just feels way too tight for my liking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great All-Around Cold Weather Hat Surprisingly warm. I wear it as my default winter hat and for running when temp is less than 25F. Easy to wash, which I like over my wool hats. Fits my 22.25 in. head nicely. Note that this is actually labeled as Wigwam's Thermax hat, which might just be the updated Coolmax term. Just right enough of material to fold up or down to cover the neck easily. Highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm, Comfortable Head Gear I really like this item. It's half wool, isn't bulky, and looks good. I'm not giving this a fifth star because it's a little bit too tight. HOWEVER, this is a very good cool weather option and has become what I wear all the time.

Questions & Answers

Is it possible to ease the tightness by stretching the cap?

Asked by: Bob35
Yes. As you see in my review, I said the cap was a little bit tight. However, after I vigorously stretched the cap, by using my fists to push from the inside out in opposite directions, the tightness has gone away and it fits perfectly.
