A nice light weight day pack with a lot of storage options. I really like the extra pockets on the chest harness. Being able to see in the big deep front pocket is nice for all the quick access things you need. The pack carries the weight comfortably and I usually pack heavy. Only used it a couple of times so far, but so far so good!
I used mine on a 10-mile day hike with 2,000 feet of elevation gain, including some 4-point scrambling and some bushwacking. The pack felt very light, extremely comfortable and convenient (numerous external pockets are readily accessible), carrying a load of about 10 pounds. There was more than adequate space to carry pretty much anything I would need on a long (10 to 15-mile) day hike. Concerns: I am concerned that all that exposed stretchy material & webbing would get pulled while bushwacking, possible loss of elasticity over time on the sternum strap cords and whether I would really use the 2-500ml soft-flask pockets. A couple minor nitpicks include: the trekking pole connector kept rubbing the inside of my arm, the vertical opening on the webbed side pockets seemed awfully tight to allow for a 1-litre Nalagene bottte to removed and unzipping the phone pocket on the vest took some getting used to as it tends to get caught on the sternum strap clips. All in all, really a great pack though.
Best hiking backpack I have owned. I carry to Yeti Ramblers, beef jerky, banana chips, first aid kit, bowie knife, and sunscreen. With all the weight and I still feel great with the added support and weight distribution that the thick straps bring when snapped across the chest.
Just completed a 10 mile hike with this pack in Shenandoah. Felt great on my back, had space for all my day hiking essentials. I love being able to cinch down my trekking poles when not needed
Very comfortable osprey velocity 20 L xl-l. I wish to get 30 L but it’s sold out .
Nice day pack that just didn't give enough advantage over what I already have. If I was a trail runner I might have a different view on this backpack. I understood I'm not the targeted demographic for this style of pack- but I am a day hiker who does enjoy quick easy access to specific items, ( phone, GPS, Reading Glasses, Water, snacks etc..) and this pack does proved for this just not any better than the packs that I already own, (which by the way are also Osprey packs). I already own third party water bottle holders and attachable pack strap pockets for my other packs plus a HMG Versa. For me what I already have was just more versatile for the items I want quick access to. Comfort of the pack seemed fine with the 'vest' style running harness with about 10-15 lbs. with one minor inconvenience- a more traditional backpack strap is normally going to be more padded thus stiffer, (and yes heavier) but does provide more support when putting the pack on with items attached to the straps. With these vest style harness the straps are wider but thinner in comparison and just dose not give one much to grab onto when the pockets have items in them. Having lots of pockets to chose from is nice but pockets on pockets is kind of useless if carrying hard items- ex. my iphone 13 with Otterbox case fit fine in left harness zippered pocket but if I put my bear spray in mesh pocket than tried to place phone in zippered pocket- for get it. All depends on what your carrying. Would I recommend this pack? If you are someone who's looking at doing some trail running or looking for your first daypack, or looking to upgrade to a better quality pack- YES. The Talon Velocity 20 is absolutely worth a look.
