Great stylish casual wear boot.

These boots are stylish, quite comfortable, and tough. They fit like a very heavy duty pair of moccasins with a snug/fitted feel to the footing. The sizing is spot on as the 10’s I usually wear were a perfect fit right out of the box. Manitobah strikes a great balance between hand made fit and finish, and very solid construction. Leather is top quality, with a suede texture to the outside of the boot. They remained waterproof despite walking in heavy morning dew for an hour. They stayed warm even when wet, and do breath as much as leather can. Sole provides good traction and the moccasin like feel makes for good ground communication and ease of footing. I have one ankle that I roll frequently, and never felt like stability was an issue. They make for a great boot for wearing out on the town if the weather is not cooperating, but you still want to look great. I did play soccer for a bit in them and had no issues with traction. Pretty sure I could hike all day in them and not have comfort issues. They were a bit on the warm side in anything over 75F degrees, but that’s any boot.

Manitobahhh! Modern Moccasin Design

The Manitobah Makwa Boot is like a modern version of an original version moccasin. Have worn outside on a mid-grade trek, the trail had a variety of different surfaces including roots, rocks, mud and soft forest floor areas. Liked how it transfers the different trail surfaces through the sole and can be felt on your feet through the soles, it reminded me of a quality solid thick hide moccasin. I felt the contour of the roots, rocks, squish of the different soft trail areas and felt more connected to the earth. You will want a hiking boot for more extreme treks but these worked well for an impromptu Sunday trek. Also good for indoor/outdoor house slipper/boot. Typically I’ve used house slippers that were also meant to be exterior use and film at the soles were always too slippery on snow when ice, it’s Fall in Alaska here and I am interested to see how the traction of these Makwa boots will respond to ice and snow hard pack. My personal assessment of these boots/moccasins or they will be good for casual use indoors and very light outdoor use. Normal shoe size for me is 11.5 as recommended by Manitobah I ordered a half size up to a size 12 and the fit is good, slightly loose, slightly wider than a regular width and do a good job of replicating classic moccasin detailing with more modern materials. The stitching detail is good and the crossover ties are elastic and reminiscent of the leather laced detail on classic Mocs. Good modern take on a classic moccasin for everyday casual use.

Cozy Stylish Boot

These boots are really cozy. They run a bit tight but I expect them to break in and pack out a bit with some consistent wear. I love the lacing system- it makes them easy to slip on and off when needed. I haven't yet had to experience any fall temps but I see these being a staple for chilly strolls with the dog and trips to the mountains alike. A big bonus is the waterproof suede, I do think I will hit it with a suede proof product to make sure that there isn't any staining if I do wear them in the snow. All in all these boots hit the mountain to city vibe that I like. They look stylish with jeans and they stay on at the firepit.

The Most Comfortable Footwear That I Own

This boot may be the most comfortable footwear that I have ever put on my feet. The sizes run small so I went with a slightly larger size. I normally wear a size 9 (U.S.) shoe, but with the Makwa I went with a size 10 and they fit like a glove. While still a little snug when putting on, the strap on the back of the boot makes sliding it over my heel easy. Once on my feet, the comfort is undeniable. The rawhide forms to the contour of my feet perfectly, eliminating any slippage around my heel or across the width of my instep. Since I have had these Makwa’s I have worn them on two hikes, one of five miles and one of six miles, and I have also spent many hours doing light work around my property. With a pronounced arch support, comfort insole pads, and thick and durable soles, I have worn these boots all day without feeling any foot fatigue or discomfort. With the high quality of workmanship, and their stylish appearance, these boots are very versatile and I can wear them with confidence in just about any situation. Whether it’s enjoying the great outdoors, running errands around town, or just enjoying a meal at a local hot spot. The only negative characteristic that I have found with this boot is that the bungie closures tend to loosen over time. But this hasn’t been an issue since the boot is form fitting to my foot. Even while the closures loosen, I find that there is no slippage around my foot, and no loss in comfort in any way. I look forward to the many miles that I plan on spending in these Makwa boots.

Comfortable boots that need to break-in

I've used these boots for about 2 weeks, and they get more comfortable every time I wear them. I was a little skeptical they were going to be comfortable, or even fit, for that matter. The first time I put them on I struggled to get them on and thought the sizing was off. However, they have loosened up and broken in nicely. After 4 or 5 hours they became extremely comfortable. The best part is the sole. I don't know how they do it, but it is a combination of thin and cushy. In fact, the soles are so thin you feel ground irregularities when you are walking in through them. At the same time, they provide a lot of cushioning. I can see these becoming my go-to runabouts.

Comfy and capable

I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. These boots are somewhat narrow. The upper conformed to my foot after a 30 min break-in, but, of course, the sole remains as it is. The weather has not dropped below 50º since the boots' arrival, so I can not speak to their warmth in the cold, but at 70º they are comfortable. I took them on a soft scramble and the tenacity of the grip was surprising on loose soil and sandstone. The construction and finish are fantastic: good quality leather and a sole that will last for years. Easy on and off, perfect for après anything in 3 seasons.

Great slip-on for around the house and about town.

I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. These are awesome slippers for around the house with a sturdy enough sole that they can take out the trash and if you use a leather protector, they will be fine around town. The fit that the company describes is accurate. My foot is narrow and I got a half size larger than usual and it still was tight in the toe box before the leather relaxed. If your foot is wide or regular, a full size up is definitely the route to go. I was not expecting to like these slip-ons so much but I have been wearing them inside pretty much constantly since getting them. The laces are fixed and stretchy and don't need to be tied which is an issue with other slipper that the laces look cool but are always coming undone. They have a sturdy wide loop at the back of the ankle that helps slip them on. The fit is tight at first as mentioned but they end up forming around your foot so they are like a glove, except a better mold. The construction seems great and the style is interesting without being so wild that you couldn't wear them out without getting extra attention. Would be prefect for after skiing or snowboarding and the drive down the mountain or hanging at the bar.

Cozy but a bit tight

I really like the moccasin style of this boot, and the lacing system makes it super easy to get them on and off. They also kept my feet warm during cool fall mornings. However, there are a few things that take away from an otherwise comfy boot. First, these are much more narrow than I would have expected from a moccasin style boot. I don't have wide feet, but I found it necessary to remove the insole to give my forefoot enough room to be comfortable. And while these were great for keeping my feet warm, I didn't find them comfortable to walk in for much more than a mile. These will likely be on my feet throughout fall and winter, but really only as boots to wear around or outside the house, or for short errands where I'm not walking much.

Perfect for Fall Adventures

These boots are incredibly comfortable for fall weather. Feels like wearing slippers, but in a fashionable boot form. Were quite comfortable walking longer distances around town and kept me from slipping on the rain soaked pavement. The inner sole provide great support for my arch and essential gave a bounce to my step.

Beautiful Craftsmanship but Tight on the Toes

I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. First and foremost, these boots are unique, beautiful and very well made. The craftsmanship that went into the design and construction of this footwear is undeniable. As a barefoot shoe enthusiast, I was excited about moccasin like design and minimalist esthetic. I also love the company’s mission and values. In short, I wanted to love these boots. I typically wear size 10.5 U.S. and, based on the company’s sizing recommendations, I order the shoe a half size up (11). While the length of the boot was perfect, the toe box was much too tight for my taste. This caused some discomfort for my toes that has not yet dissipated with just over a week of wearing them. Also, I was a little disappointed with the initial rigidity of the sole and excessive cushioning. While some people may appreciate these features, as someone who wears barefoot shoes on a daily basis, I found them to be disappointingly restrictive for my feet. I am hopeful that these issues will resolve themselves with time and wear. In short, these boots are beautiful, extremely well made, and easy to slip into. If the fit improves as they continue to break-in, I could see them becoming a goto for leisurely outdoor activities.
