Perfect!

I've had this watch for a week. The display is insane LEGIT. My coworkers all have the backlit displays and everyone is jealous of the 965 display. I've ran and mountain biked with this watch and the data is so good. I'm new to Garmin watches but extremely happy to move away from Apple. I fully charged it and after 7 days, I'm at 40% with running (multiple days) and Mtn. biking (1 day) and screwing around with trying to learn the watch capabilities. Excellent watch

Beware scratches
grizzle
I've owned a Forerunner 945 for a year and a half and it was on my wrist almost 24/7, all through ironman training and the event. Not a hiccup not a scratch... I saw the 965's new screen and thought It'd be nice to have a smart watch quality display. HRV etc... all the features it claims to have over previous models. One week in and not even an active one, there is a scratch. I'll be the first to be accountable and say I was doing something foolish but I wasn't. In fact I can't even remember doing an activity rough enough to scratch the screen. I haven't even been in the pool... can't imagine what would happen if this scraped the pool edge or smacked a lane line. Well I can... it'd probably scratch. Since I was only a week in, I thought I'd try my chances with Garmin support, even though it states in their warranty that they don't cover cosmetic problems. C'mon man, one week? Nope, asked me to pay another $168 to cover the replacement cost. I paid because selling a watch with a scratch would deduct at least that when selling online. I WILL be selling the new watch in an unopened box hoping to find someone who doesn't mind products that scratch by... breathing on them? Look, the screen is brighter than previous models, no doubt... and if you're the type of person who mainly deals in handling marsh mellows, you'll be fine. For athletes that actually do stuff and don't want to have a scratched up mess on their wrists, then go for the old watches and screen material or a different brand all together. IMO, quality like that on a $600 watch that is meant for activity... inexcusable. Hope this helps and I'll be updating other online retailers with the same review. Hopefully save someone from wasting $600.

multiple problems with this watch

Multiple issues with this watch: The heart rate monitor is not accurate - it sometimes reads 70 bpm too high, and I have to remove it from my wrist during my run to get it to reset. I think you absolutely need to purchase a chest strap if you want reliable HR data. The display does not reliably light up when raising my wrist up - sometimes I have to raise and twist my arm several times to get the display on, which is very annoying while running. If you ever fall on a trail run, don't buy this watch - my gorilla glass has multiple scrapes and scratches from one fall on gravel. My altitude varied by 50 feet while asleep in bed last night. This and the problems with the HR monitor make me question all the data I'm getting.

Battery life and features are 10/10!

I was on the fence about switching smartwatch brands. My previous one was pretty old and I had to charge it at night and then again before I did a workout in the evening. I knew friends that raved about Garmin so it was added to my list of options. After some extensive research (literally just me searching for YouTube videos comparing different watch brands lol) I knew Garmin was the way to go. I'm still getting used to some of the buttons, but I'm glad they're there because it makes starting, pausing, and stopping workouts so much easier. I'm glad I made the switch, this is a game-changer!

Large and very bright display

I upgraded from the Forerunner 620. The display on the 965 is just amazing. I think the user interface has generally gotten much easier to use and I’m only going back to the manual for things live Live Track.

What a game changer. I had my lineup of Forerunners but this one takes the cake. Was able to snatch one of the first ones in Miami and can’t wait to get out there running! #beatyesterday #leagueofgarmin

Great watch, great motivator

I bought this watch about 1 month ago to start training for the Miami 1/2 marathon. I was a die hard Apple Watch fan, but started to get frustrated with the short battery life and I also desired more running focus metrics. The Garmin forerunner 965 was the answer to my prayers. The battery life is top notch and exceeds 12 days easily. I enjoy review the race predictions, VO2 max, HRV status, and health snapshot available to me. I love the morning reports. It really gives me a better understanding of how to train and when to rest. This watch is amazing. The GPS and maps function is a plus. And I enjoy the built in workouts and training programs/Garmin Coach available. The music/mp3 storing feature (with the use of Spotify premium) is useful. I can take runs without my phone and still enjoy music. I also tried the forerunner 265 (also a very good watch without the maps and music storage) and the vivoactive 5 (similar to the Apple Watch 7) for about a week long each…and the Garmin 965 is amazing in comparison. All in all, this is a very beneficial tool that is keeping healthy, motivated, and on track to reaching my running goals.

Garmin update fix which rendered the watch useles.

I bought this watch for a hiking trip to Patagonia. It worked for 5 days and then a blue triangle appeared on the watch face and would not go away. I couldn’t even tell what time it was and the watch was useless for anything. I even tried turning it on and off and nothing worked. I googled a possible fix and what came up was a bug called the blue triangle of death. I called Garmin and they said it was a bug related to an update fix. They said that I needed to do a factory reset. The instructions given for a factory reset did not work at this point in time. Needless to say, I will be returning the watch.

Defective device

Bugs, bugs, and more bugs! Within a week of getting the watch it had an error that stated “couldn’t unlock maps” and no matter what I do, it cannot be fixed. Regularly cannot tell where I am on GPS. Has trouble connecting to my phone. Awful. Think I was sold a defective watch.
