3/4 baked Garmin Pie

3/4 Baked product launch. Garmin has a new UI and presumably and new OS beneath the surface of the UI since it seems as though this refresh will not be completely trickling down to the older fenix and epix models. Yet the youtube music that took so long to get on the fenix 7 is not present on this watch, the turn by turn navigation bug from the fenix 7 where there is no turn by turn notification at all unless you activate voice alerts and on the fenix 7 that meant your phone or earbuds spoke the directions to you instead of just chirped and on this watch the watch itself will talk to you. The labarythine amount of menus and submenus, many are totally redundant and superfluous, that Garmin is famous for only gets worse on this watch. I loaded up a 20 mile course to take me into the mountains around Tucson via Sabino Canyon, had a pacepro plan, and turn by turn enabled, and only the pacepro alerts came through, no turn by turn. Accessing the navigation menu is now so involved I have to stop to try to figure it out. Nothing is simple or intuitive, nothing is only one or two button presses or swipes away. Garmin Jumped the shark with this one. The AMOLED display that reviewrs seem to be raving about as being as good as MIP in bright sunlight was again too hard to read in the bright Tucson sun and I had to stop my run and adjust my body to be able to see where I was going on the map page. The map page itself is laggy and takes too long to adjust to the direction you are headed in. For a watch that costs upwards of $1100 bucks, it feels like this was rushed out to launch before the big UTMB race. On the plus side the build quality feels like 3 steps up from the Fenix 7. The metrics garmin has and their accuracy are fantastic. The app, both phone and online are top notch. The features are beyond what any competitor offers, but its just too much. too many menus, too much faffing about when Im just trying to run and dont want to have to spend a week dialing in settings and the exact number of data pages I want for each of my activities. The UI is no where near intuitive. Just not for me. Im going back to my Suunto Vertical

Great watch

Very good watch. Only thing I don’t like is that it dims down when at night and sometimes it’s hard to read, especially if your eyes are getting old like mine. Lol. But great watch nonetheless.

Solid upgrade over 7X

My 2-year-old 7X was starting to get a bit shorter battery life. The case and crystal were getting a bit worn. Excuses to buy the Fenix 8 Sapphire 51 mm in orange. Two days later, I ran Run RABBIT Run 100 miles. Everything turned on including Bluetooth and multiband, HR etc. after 33h40 minutes, I had more than 50% battery left. Did some recovery runs, came home and was still at 49% when I charged it up today. Honestly better than I expected. No problems with the display outside. Bigger AMOLED had me worried but it's just fine. Deep black background with vivid text and snappy animations. I honestly did not expect it to be this good.

Great looking Watch

I upgraded from an Enduro 2 because I wanted an AMOLED display and so far I'm loving the Fenix 8. I paired this with the titanium band and it looks amazing. Been on a couple runs and it works like any other Garmin I've owned. I went with the 51mm (as usual for me). Great battery life and all the bells and whistles. Couldn't be happier.

Apple compatibility

This was a gift for my wife, we are apple users and have always had Apple Watches, so she wasn’t sure of the actual compatibility of garmin with apple. The sales associate at the Salem REI was very knowledgeable and helpful but you never know till you try it yourself. She has had it now for more than a month and loves it. She has been able to make it do everything her Apple Watch did plus all the garmin features she wanted. She highly recommends the watch for people who use Apple and are concerned about compatibility. It works very well. Plus, it has a lot more features that Apple does not offer that she wanted and to top it all off the battery life is amazing.

Great for multisport use and daily wear!

I mainly cycle and have used a Garmin Edge 1040 for biking since the new year. Then I started swimming more and was using a Garmin Swim 2 as well. The Swim 2 was alright, but I just wasn't satisfied with it for all day use, so upgraded to the Fenix 8 a couple weeks ago. I absolutely love it so far. I've used it for swimming, hiking and running and it has worked perfectly. It seems to have an easier time tracking laps in the pools compared to the Swim 2. The flashlight is a game changer! I have seen a lot of people talking about glitches and bugs, but I haven't had any issues. It connects to my GarminConnect app without issue and works fine with Garmin Express, too. I also have my Edge 1040 synced to my GarminConnect, all of which is connected to MyFitnessPal, and it all works seamlessly. I use my Edge 1040 while biking, and when I come back, the data (like active calories burned) syncs to my GarminConect and Fenix 8 right away. The built quality is phenomenal. The band is nice, and I like that the buttons are inductive instead of reliant on O-rings.

Best watch to purchase. Highly recommended..

Recently purchased Garmin Fenix 8 solar. Was previously using Apple Watch 8. I must say I did not find any negative side from people’s feedback. The watch works great, looks amazing, it’s more accurate with pace than Apple. Also bought screen guard for added safety. Training screen gives very clear and bold data. Apple makes it crowded. Very happy to upgraded to this watch. It’s not even bulky and don’t feel its weight if you are using all time like me. Its app gives perfect data, liked the fitness feature. Solar version is best, shows even in light. Night mode is amazing. It is protecting your eyes from bright light like apple or AMOLED. Definitely highest accurate than other watch. Recommended to buy it. Thanks

Incredible Watch. Best of the best.

I can't speak highly enough about this watch. The screen is beautiful, the buttons are super cool, it has endless awesome features. You can tell it is very high quality. Right out of the box I recorded a 3 hour bike road while playing downloaded Spotify music and it didn't skip a beat. Look no further and invest in this incredible piece of technology! I have small wrists as a woman and the 43mm fits perfectly.

Great watch! When it works...

I was thrilled about this new watch! However, during its first outing on a hike, I noticed some significant issues. The device frequently glitched, and the buttons seemed overly sensitive, switching screens without any touch input. It was simply not functional. I returned it to my local REI, where they were wonderfully helpful as usual, and exchanged it for another one. Thankfully, this replacement has been glitch-free so far. That said, I've come across several other reviews mentioning similar problems. Glitches aside, the Fenix 8 is an exceptional watch, and I've happily replaced my Apple Watch with it. The features and statistics are impressive.

From an Epix 2 Pro Owner

I am probably representing a small subset of users who switch to this, as I had the Epix Pro 2, which is essentially the same hardware as the Fenix 8, but without the dive or voice features - neither of which I'm likely to use. I watched multiple reviews, tried to talk myself out of getting it, but wasn't able to. I decided to 'let' myself buy it, knowing REI had a great return policy, and was truly expecting to return it a few days later. But after 1 day, I switched to the Fenix 8, and sold my Epix 2 on ebay. Why ? This is going to sound silly, but it looks a lot better. I had the white Epix 2, and the only band you could wear with that reasonably was the white band. I wanted to switch up the colors. This orange is gorgeous, and paired with the timeflies watch face, it looks great to me (see pic). I'd read complaints about the new hepatic buttons, but I actually prefer them to the Epix 2. The UI is different, but easy to figure out, and all the same things are there. It feels faster and snappier when you're navigating the menus. Because the hardware is the same, the accuracy is the same as the epix (top of the line - far better than the apple watch ultra 2 for instance !) The battery life seems a little better too, which isn't supposed to be the case, but it is definitely lasting longer for me than the Epix 2 pro did. Did I need this, no, but do I love this, yes ! 5 stars so far.

Moved from an Ultra 1 and am very happy,

I am impressed. Switched from an Apple Ultra 1, and what a difference in functionality. Can feel complicated at first (since the Ultra is so one-dimensional), but the online user manual is easy to read and apply. I still get text messages, can make calls, and it has a Find My iPhone feature. Love the dedicated flashlight (white or red), and it has so many cool training features. Went with the Saphire since I have heard repeatedly that the standard glass is pretty fraile for an adventure watch. After a day of heavy use I still have 80% battery while my Ultra was already down to 40%. The Connect app and web site make setting up workouts fun. Ilike the online Watch Face Store, as well as the app store. Great upgrade from the Ultra.
