Tried last years Encampment and really liked it other than the footbox was somewhat restrictive once you slipped the pad in. This version has addressed that--my feet can move all they want to! It also has a zipper that goes further down (I have the long version) the side as compared to last years which is nice if you want to stick a foot out to cool down Tons of room to move around inside the bag--almost too much. Kept me warm to about 25-30 degrees with just a thin base layer. Pair this with a BA pad and it's a pretty comfy solid night's sleep!
I am a 5'5" ,broad shouldered and usually made uncomfortable by the tightness i feel around my upper body in a sleeping bag. The bag is very comfortable. I've used it in the summer and just left it most of the way open. I also camped in the snow at Upper Lena Lake in early May and was fine. The hood that goes over your face when it's cold is well designed and not too restrictive so it doesn't feel like you are sealing yourself in but still keeps the cold out. The bottom of the bag doesn't have any filler in it and is designed to us pad to give you insulation from the ground. I was skeptical about this at first but I don't even think twice about it now. My only complaint is I wish that it could compress more but I knew that was the compromise I made when I bought a synthetic. Overall this is a great product.
Talk about roomy! Any larger size person wanting to start out, this is your bag. There are a lot of choices in types of Big Agnes pads too. No other brand even comes close to the comfort for plus size hikers. 6'1" 350 lb man is comfy in the wide long bag with extra room. 1st time use on a 35 degree night and didn't zip all the way up due to being so warm. 100% Big Agnes Customer for life!
I bought this for a Philmont trek in the summer of 2017. I am 74 inches and 230. This is almost too big for me which is weird. So far in Texas its kept me warm down to 30F in just shorts. I sleep on a REI air mattress but I do not put the mattress in the bag like it suggests so I might cut that piece of extra cloth off. This bag compress nicely in a 15L waterproof compression sack. Probably overkill for Philmont but I dont like to be cold.
I've had mine for 2 years now. It's a great summer bag, but the problem is that it is not a 15 degree bag. I sleep cold, I've used many a 15 or 20 degree bag between 10 and 0 degrees and been fine, but with this bag, I'm cold at 30 wearing long underwear tops and bottoms. I use Big Agnes' insulated camping mattress and so am using their system correctly, this is just a much warmer bag than you would think. It will be replaced next fall with a proper 15 degree bag, but will still be used for the summers.
