Pick a size up
Smith uses the same size range chart on every helmet they make, that used to be a good thing. This Men's Medium fit like a Kid's Medium. My head measures exactly in the middle of the Smith Medium range and yet this helmet could barely fit over my noggin with the ear pads pressing in noticeably. I owned a Smith Gage Medium that fit just fine. Otherwise the helmet is great, just annoying that I have to deal with an exchange now to get the Large size.
MIPS works!
Helmet fits great. Got the orange one and love the color. Took a nasty spill this last weekend where I endo'd, landed on my back and smacked my head pretty hard. MIPS absorbed the impact almost entirely. No concussion, seeing stars, or any lingering effects...besides the broken rib....
Great for Winter Bike Commuting
I have used this helmet for winter bike commuting this year. I ordered the large. With the padding and insulation, there is enough room for a balaclava. The fit is snug but still comfortable. I would say it is sized a little on the snug side. There is a slide lever to open or close the vents. For a short commute, I keep them closed. For longer rides I partially of fully open them, sometimes well into the ride. There is also a strap with a snap to hold goggles. Below 20 degrees I use ski goggles. There is sufficient room for the goggles. It is snug but completely comfortable. The construction seems very high quality and it has MIPS protection. I am very pleased with this helmet and fortunately have not had to test the level of protection it offers.
It's nice...I Like...
The Smith Camber helmet has met my expectations so far. It's maiden trip was several hours of riding at Treetops Resort in Gaylord, MI. It was chilly and windy that day, but my head stayed warm. The helmet is comfortable and fits well with googles. I highly recommend trying on the helmet with your googles to ensure proper fit. The ventilation of the helmet worked well, including the ventilation to the googles. Taking it to Winter Park, CO tomorrow! Would recommend this helmet to anyone in need of a comfortable, well fitting helmet.
Just right! Snug, warm, great look.
Got this at the tail end of the 2020 season and had a chance to field test a few times on the slopes. So far so good! Thankfully no falls, but it stays on and does not annoy. Do measure your head and get the right size. I am an adult with a 'regular' (I hope) head, and got an M. It fits snug enough that I can only wear it directly on the head or with a very thin balaklava. Anything bulkier like a hat or a thick fleece balaklava would not work unless you oversize. With that in mind, the helmet itself provides great ear cover and warmth. Maybe a bit too warm and I've had to take it off on the chairlift on occasion to dry the sweat, but it's a much better problem to have than frozen ears! Also if you're into shooting action video, the shape allows to fasten a GoPro to the front (just barely tho) for some good action clips.
2018 Smith Camber MIPS snow helmet
I upgraded with this MIPS version of the same Camber snow helmet I have used for a few seasons.I did not get any hit while using the non-MIPS version of Camber helmet, except for the periodic hits I got wearing the helmet by the ski lift protective handlebars next to me snowborders/skiers buddy using without notifying me, since I seat tall compare to others. Regardless of these ski lift hitting using a helmet for 3-5 years calls for replacement according the manufacturers. Upgrading to MIPS since it adds an additional layer inside the helmet size could be one size up in case you’re like me a border size between M & L, so using the Boa-fit rotation knob behind with L-size allowed me to rather reduce the inside circumference for better snug but comfortable fit than with M-size increase it.
Warm, comfortable, practical
For context: I'm an intermediate skier in my forties with years of experience, but I had not skied for many years until my child became old enough to join me. Back when I'd skied last, helmets were not common among non-professionals. Fast forward to today's world on the slopes, where head injuries are better understood, and helmets are now common. My primary concern with wearing a helmet was that it would be detrimental to my experience by affecting my hearing and being cumbersome. Not so with the Camber- it's light, fits well, and keeps my ol' noggin warm. The dial-type adjustment at the back of the head is familiar from bike helmets, and works just as well. I was not expecting to feel this way, but I am now a helmet convert. Well done, Smith team! A couple of side notes that might be useful to potential buyers: 1. As a couple of other folks have noted, this model does run a little small/snug. I wear a thin skullcap to avoid any undue pressure points, and it works extremely well, especially in temperatures below freezing. I figure the way to avoid this would be to go up one size, but I'm glad I didn't. 2. I chose the outgoing "matte reactor" green, and it's so helpful for recognition on the slopes. My son has the same exact helmet, and it's easy for us to find each other. Plus, black or gray is boring- live a little on the slopes!
Excellent!
This helmet is the lightest, most comfortable, and warmest I have ever had. I often wear it as a bike helmet, and it is the best I have had in that sport as well. Even in warm weather it is still comfortable. It does not shift around on my head as previous helmets did, a really good fit
Sizing is off, fit is awkward
My husband and I ordered a large and medium of the Camber helmet based off the sizing chart. As soon as we tried them on, I noticed that the fit was very snug. Both of our head diameters were toward the middle-high end of the range. The Boa tighteners are obsolete for both of us, as any extra tightening results in an immediate headache. I tried on the larger size and the fit was improved, but only marginally. In order to secure the helmet, I had to tighten the Boa as much as it could go, and the adjustment was sluggish. With the Boa tightened as much as possible, the liner of the helmet bunches in the front, causing a seam to rub two red spots onto my forehead. I would have sworn there was velcro hook against my skin (but there wasn't). Both sizes will be returned immediately. So disappointed!
Well built helmet with MIPS
Was too small - we ended up with a different helmet but same manufacturer. I wish sizes were truer.
