BEST HELMET/GOGGLES ON THE MARKET!
Finishing up my second ski season with the Photochromatic version. This is hands down the best helmet W/goggles on the market! This Smith helmet checks ALL the boxes!!! From fit, to stylish look and last but not least , the easy transition from day to night ski sessions. WORTH EVERY PENNY! And NO, this hasn’t fogged not once! From 46 to 9 degrees , snowy to misty days this helmet has displayed the same consistent function and protection! And yes, I have had a few yard sales while wearing this helmet.
Wanted to love this but it's awful...
This was a birthday gift and I was so excited to receive it. I loved the idea of being able to just move the goggles up and down without taking my gloves off and not having to deal with them flipping off the back of my helmet. This is certainly comfortable fitting but that is where the good ends. If worn on a totally calm and sunny day, it would be fine. When I wore it, it was snowing a little and there was a slight wind. Cut to the goggles becoming filled up with snow and fog...and also my eyes/face getting cold because there was a draft through the tops and sides where the goggles and helmet meet. I was so sad to have to return this.
Frozen and Blinded
Just Skied a Park City on the first powder day of the season. Was excited to use this new Helmet. The goggles allowed snow to build up inside the Lens. Impossible to clean or clear without taking the helmet off. Never had good visibility, constant wind through all sides of the googles, bad seal just Awful. Smith should be embarrassed to have this product out with their name on it. If you are going anywhere that you might get snow.. Don't bring this helmet.
Horrible!
I have been skiing for 40 years and have owned countless pairs of goggles. These are terrible. Snow accumulates inside the lens and you have to stop (which means you have to take the helmet off) and clean out the inside of the lens. It's best to do this in the lodge so you can avoid having a head full of snow when you put the helmet back on. Very annoying. If you look inside on the upper portion of the lens where it meets the helmet, it looks like they put two vent holes. Normally vent holes on goggles have a very thin mesh cover on them to prevent snow from getting in. These don't. The helmet also has two vent holes in the front of the helmet. These can't be closed when you slide the vents shut. These two vents don't have any sort of mesh to prevent snow from getting in. I don't know if it's the helmet vents or the goggle vents that are letting the snow in. For $300 buck I'm not covering them with electrical tape to find out. Returning them after two powder days ruined.
I wear glasses!
I wear glasses! I bought this hoping I wouldn’t get fogged up anymore. Yes, I no longer have fogged glasses. Yes, it fits small. I wear medium and bought a large. Yes, try it on and make sure it fits your face and glasses. Yes, the product is comfortable Yes, I ski in Tahoe, during some bad storms this year it worked well. Yes, smith has a great warranty and support. No, Yes, some snow might get in between you helmet and forehead. Wear a thin head covering. Yes, it doesn’t seal perfectly around your face like goggles. Yes, replacement visors are a thing if you can find them. Yes, smith seems to struggle with supply chain for replacement lenses.
Good Idea, Poor Desgn Issues
Great idea to incorporate the googles into the helmet. Unfortunately it’s poorly executed. A space on both sides of the googles allows snow and cold air in. Snow comes in and attaches to the inside of your goggles, making it hard to see out and putting you in a very dangerous situation. Only good for blue sky days.
Average Helmet- Better on Sunny Day
After snowboarding Palisades, and Alpine it was determined it wouldn't do well, in anything that isn't perfection, sunny, non powder conditions. The idea is great, but it fails when theres powder, or any bit of wind. Theres no tight seal on the goggles, and allows for snow build up all around the visor, and no way to clean the helmet.
Smith Survey integrated goggles/visor helmet
First helmet was too small, returned/reordered for larger size. Have not skied with it yet, but it fits well and is comfortable. I was tired of fumbling with my googles when they slipped off my prior helmet-looking forward to using it.
Worst helmet ever
Visor doesn't keep out water of any kind. Any snow melting on the helmet will run along the inside of the lenses making it hard to see. The visor doesn't stay locked in the secured position and the mechanics are flimsy. I didn't last two runs before I removed the visor due to the inability to see, just so could finish the run and buy a new helmet and goggle setup to finish the day. Which was a smith helmet/goggle combo anyway. The survey is just horrible.
Great System, Get the photochromatic lens.
Love the photochromatic lens. Super light helmet barely feels it is on. I added the Aleck nunchucks and it sounds great. A couple of improvements points. (a better protection for the lens when stowed away, maybe a whole helmet rigid case or a rigid cover for the lens. Also, the earmuffs out pressure on the ears when using with the audio system.
