Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally a GPS Watch I can wear all the time! This watch is rock solid. Looks like a really nice watch that I can wear with a suit or casually. Comes with an extra plastic band that is easy to switch out for when I run or bike or swim. The software is really good. GPS and heart rate are really accurate. I have used the 910, 920, and the Fenix 2. This is by far the best feature set. Most people don't have a clue that when I'm wearing it that it is a GPS watch, step counter, sleep monitor, smart watch. I have no complaints.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy with the features This is my first new running watch since I bought the Forerunner 405CX a few years ago and this is a huge improvement on that (although not that surprising given the advances in tech, and the price difference). Set up was easy and everything seems to be working as expected (I had a minor problem where I must have accidentally selected "hide" on the status of the Run activity option, so couldn't find it, but the Garmin forums helped me work that out. My Running in NJ blog has a more complete review, but the GPS is very quick to get a lock even when I was still inside the house (by the door, but also with a porch outside). I ran this morning with both this and my 405CX. The 405CX took a lot longer to get a GPS fix but also had extremely poor accuracy for the first mile, so recorded a longer distance and a side by side map comparison shows the Fenix 3 route sticking accurately to the roads I was on. Happy enough so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! My favorite watch ever... Admittedly I may not be the hard core triathlete that will use very feature to its limit but for tracking my runs, bike rides, tracks, personal records, and anything else I can throw it - I can't be happier. I ran a 5-mile trail run in the pouring rain and dang it didn't skip a beat. Washed off the mud and it looked perfect for the next day in the office. Highly recommend it. More than satisfied!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fenix 3 is Awesome This watch is awesome. I haven't experienced a single problem and it far exceeded my expectations. Its acquires the GPS fast and is accurate. There are more features that I even know how to use and I love the customizable screens. This watch is everything the great pro reviews make it out to be. I've never used a Fenix 2 so I'm not sure how much it offers over its predecessor, but this is most definitely the coolest, and most useful GPS watch I've ever had. The pictures don't do it justice, its beautiful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great hardware, not so robust software Fantastic hardware, everything I've wanted in a "smart" outdoor & exercise watch as of 2015. Nice looking, sturdy construction, weight is just right , not too heavy or light. Connect IQ has huge potential. I'm upgrading from the original Suunto Ambit and I think it's the first worth awhile upgrade. My concern for it is that, at the moment the connect IQ apps are still very limited and somewhat buggy and sometimes cause the watch to reset. I just ran into a frequently watch reset issue possibly caused by an app(and the firmware 3.20) and had to format the watch's storage on the computer to get it back into normal stable operation. That tells me that the firmware is not robust enough, and Garmin does not have a good track record to keep refining their released product(I've owned several garmin products before from handheld gps to gps sports watches) as opposed to Sunnto does with their Ambit line. Instead, they tend to rely on frequently releasing new models. Bottom line, great hardware, but the software is not quite there yet and I hope Garmin will focus a bit more on post sale support and firmware update rather than just keep releasing new models for profit.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great idea - but full of bugs I bought this watch six months ago when it first came out. It is a great idea - a nice looking package that combines smart watch functions with sports tracking, training and monitoring. It is a very complex product, I bought it soon after it was introduced and expected that there were bugs to be worked out. Six months later, Garmin has made little progress in fixing the bugs. They have provided numerous updates that seem to fix one problem and create two more. The last update, 4.30 was especially disastrous - deleting functions and wiping out your settings. I'd like to see this product succeed, but the problems are overwhelming and Garmin seems to be moving backwards in fixing them. I recommend looking at other products that may not do as much, but actually do what you need them to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Setting the bar for GPS watches I just bought this for my wife today at REI, I myself bought mine directly from the Garmin store in Chicago 3 weeks ago as they were impossible to find in my area and I wanted to see/touch/feel before I bought one. I would rather have bought through REI, as their customer service and warranty is superior to Garmin's....but alas curiosity and impatience got the better of me. I have owned a Fenix 2, forerunner 610, 620 and 405 and the newer vivosmart fitness tracker, and this one is head and shoulders the best yet. First off, it really does look actually is easier to read in direct sunlight, the App Store (connect IQ store) is building a great stock of apps, data fields, watch faces and widgets.......and they are all FREE! It acquires signal super fast with a nice little vibrate alert in case you got distracted for the 15 seconds it takes to find the signal. (It's smart to do a "GPS soak" fairly early on, leave it in some form of gps mode, run, hike etc, for 20 mins on top of your car, the lawn, somewhere safe, but stable and let it get strong signal, this really settles the watch down and makes it way more accurate) it is ridiculously customizable. My favorite features are the battery smart watch function, with fitness tracker on, in regular watch mode, it typically only looses 7% of battery per day.......including sleeping with it to track sleep patterns. It's stand alone altimeter, barometer Compass (ABC) is a follow on from the fenix 1 and 2 but with color graphs that make it all the better. Custom watch faces that integrate daily fitness measures like steps, sleep etc, time, moon phase, hunting fishing data, sunrise, moonrise and so much more......this is the apple watch killer for athletes. Accurate GOS data....LOTS of data, incredible battery life even with full GPs use (20-50 hours) and it looks amazing working out or in a suit. I really can't say enough about this watch....earlier reviews said the software was glitchy...that's been resolved. This watch does 90% more than I've described here.....I love it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Are you kidding?! Out of the box Garmin express could not find my new Fenix 3 when connected to my Mac via USB cable. Also would not pair via Bluetooth with my iPhone 6. I don't know what is wrong with Garmin software. My current Fenix will no longer connect with Base Camp, so I thought that maybe a new Fenix 3 would be better. But connectivity is just as bad as with my original Fenix. And yes, I have all the software updates. And no, I am not stupid or an idiot. In fact I design and build electronic devices, so I do know what I am doing. Garmin products used to be superb, but they seem to be going backwards with their newer products.

Questions & Answers

Will the Garmin Fenix 3 Sapphire be offered as a bundle with the heart rate monitor?

Asked by: bsnow
If you want the benefits of "running dynamics" (i.e. vertical oscillation, cadence, foot contact time, etc.) do not buy the strap REI recommended below. You want the "HRM-RUN" product from Garmin. You can tell the difference by a small white running stick figure on the front. Currently it doesn't look like REI sells it by itself but you can see what it looks like here:

Other than the watch face materials (regular glass vs. chrystal) is there any difference to the watch faces?  I thought I read the sapphire Chrystal model had a domed watch face. Is the standard glass model domed or flat faced?

Asked by: adventureman
The sapphire model does not have a red accent on the start button as the non-sapphire model does.  The sapphire model also has different numerical metering on the upper right quadrant around the bezel.

Will the wrist bands from the Gray/Silver Fenix 3 fit the Sapphire watch?

Asked by: Funkdrummer
I believe it comes with a black plastic wrist band in addition to the metal band according to other websites selling the watch. Also, you can buy other color accessory bands. They sell them on garmin.
