For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

These were a Mother's Day gift last year 2015. They replaced a previous pair of New Balance hikers which I loved to their worn out demise. I had never tried La Sportiva before but I am now a believer! I love these shoes so much! They are my favorite pair of trail shoes to date. They feel as if they were custom made for my feet. Most comfortable 'fits like a glove' fit I've ever experienced in a hiking/trail shoe. I love that they are super light and agile. The traction is excellent, very grippy. Feel very light & confident maneuvering all types of terrain whether I'm running or hiking. They breathe really well & dry quickly. They have great arch support for my high arches & the foot feels well supported & very stable in the shoe. These have hiked, ran & explored so many miles in their first year & I've put them to the test. They are holding up remarkably well! I love that these shoes support me so I can enjoy what I love most: hiking mountains with my dogs. I am already looking forward to buying these again as a backup replacement for when I wear out this pair (which I will!). I believe if you invest in the right shoe you will love every step :) My feet have definitely enjoyed every step in these awesome trail runners! I highly recommend them :) For reference: I have small narrow feet & wear a size 6. These feel absolutely true to size.
I am so happy that I picked the right shoe, the first time! I got these a few days ago...and today I climbed to Hanging Lake for the first time, easy as pie. I have normal width feet with somewhat narrow heels, and I hover between 7 and 7.5. I got these in 7 - they fit like a dream. (I wear thin to medium socks, never thick ones.) Lots of room in the toe, flexible soles that NEVER slipped once, and hugged my heels like a comfy glove. Not one moment of pain or friction. I practically ran down the trail on the way back, that's how confident I felt in these shoes. Next goal: my friends are taking me to do my first 14er. I am much less anxious now that I have these shoes.
I purchased these shoes in Spring 2015 for hopes of trail running and day hiking (I don't like heavy hiking boots when day hiking). These shoes are great!!! They're lightweight, breathe easy, dry quickly after they have gotten wet, and have great support. I personally love the tough arch support piece that is in these shoes. It really helps with rocky terrain. They do run a tiny bit small - I am usually a 6.5, which is what I ordered, but I wish I would have ordered a 7. After a year of some serious hiking they have started to wear out, which is longer than normal for me, but I will be purchasing these shoes again because I love them so much.
Would love to give these 5 stars because they are among the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn and my feet love them. They do run small in my opinion, I'm generally a 8-8.5 and I bought a size 9 for the first time ever. However, within a few months the lace "holes" started unthreading and I got a thread break at my big toe on each shoe. The shoes seemed to still be sealed (like a heat seal where the thread broke) but within a few months of the thread break, I've got holes in both shoes. One last thing, the tongue is very thin (which I thought I'd like) and I wondered if it would wear out. Ultimately, I decided this is not a high wear point of the shoes and decided to buy them due to comfort fit and they're super lightweight. The tongue also shredded. All of this wear is way ahead of the wear on the tread. So disappointed.
I bought these at the Member's sale in March but did not wear them until my trip to Florida in early June. Though they are very comfortable and light and feel great on my feet, the fabric around the ankle near the laces has worn out in only a month's time. I had similar problems with this shoe last year which I bought for travels in Europe, but the wear did not show up so quickly. My husband's La Sportiva shoes have a different fabric at this site on the shoe and they are NOT showing similar problems. La Sportiva needs to rethink the fabric surrounding the ankle part of the shoe! They're going back.
I bought these shoes as my day hike shoes for several planned hikes during a summer road trip with my friends. We did Hanging Lake in Glenwood Springs, CO where I broke these in. It's a tough, rocky hike of 1.2 miles each way to the beautiful hanging lake and these shoes were excellent. I later wore them at Arches National Park in Moab, UT and again during some hikes and walks in Page, AZ at Horseshoe Bend, Hanging Gardens, and Antelope Canyon. These shoes held up, had great grip, and were really comfortable. I tried on several pairs of shoes at REI before I settled on these and I am very pleased with them and can't wait to take them on more day hikes!
These were a must after my road-running shoes kept disintegrating on the trails. I've worn these for a few months now, and they seem to hold up well. About as good as you can hope for in handling slippery rocks and mud. My only issue is that they seem a little narrow in the toe-box. I'm typically a 7 or 7.5 in running shoes. Went with a 7 in these and they fit in all respects except that my pinky toes are a bit cramped. For that reason, you might considering ordering on the upper end of your shoe size spectrum.
I have been fighting plantar fasciitis for more than 10 years. Hoka One One Stinson and Bondi have been my salvation. After a year and a half with them and consistent stretching I'm running on a regular basis. Feeling so good, thought I might try a shoe that might have more longevity in the tread. These felt great in the store and I love the lugs. After 2.5 miles in the park/trail of just light walking my forefoot was in pain. There isn't enough support in the front of this shoe. Arch and heel are great, but I just couldn't risk any further foot issues. Returned for my Stinson ATR.
Both my husband and I bought these (he of course bought the men's version). That day, we took them out on a 6-7 mile trail run followed by another 4 mile hike. The shoes were light, sturdy and snug on our feet - they didn't feel sloppy with more room than necessary. My tendons don't like motion control shoes - normally I road run in minimalist shoes. I was really impressed that I had no problems! They have the feel of a semi-minimalist shoe but built for the trail. I am looking forward to my weekly trail runs with these!
I haven't had the chance to wear these hiking yet but I absolutely LOVE them for running and lifting. Definitely have good support throughout the shoe, they don't come untied, and you can replace the sole if you want/need something different and they have really good traction too. I normally wear a size 8.5 but I got a 9.5 instead so I definitely recommend sizing up for when your feet swell from being in them for a while
