You can't buy a shoe that's *even lighter* (15 grams lighter, each) than the most popular lightweight zero-drop shoe in thru-hiking history, and expect it to last as long! This is a very lightweight shoe with a wispy upper. I think this could be a GREAT John Muir Trail shoe, or a shoe to circumnavigate Mount Hood or Mount Rainier with. I feel like they'll take care of you very well for ~250 miles, then the uppers might have problems. I have a 27cm long foot that is 4" wide at the widest point and the Bushido III 42.5 wide is super comfortable out the gate. I have tall arches and sort of chunky (height-wise) feet and disagree with people who say they lack box height. I LOVE the grip and the positive feel. I don't anticipate I'll be using these off-trail though, because they do seem delicate. I will appreciate the ventilation and light shoe color in the hot desert heat, though. We will see! I'm not disappointed, but hope that for future Bushidos, La Sportiva goes ahead and dumps another 30g into each shoe. I too am confused which niche this iteration of the Bushido is supposed to fill... maybe it's people who can afford to replace their trail runners more frequently.
I got these and hike in CO for vacation and brought them home to IN and just as happy.
I wanted to love these shoes, but they just don't work. They have a wider toe box, which is great, but the shoe is made very flat. If you have high insteps or arches these won't work for you. Being very flat through the instep combined with the low heel cup (please can this trend end), means unless you have a flat foot you foot feels like it sits on top of the shoe vs securely inside the the shoe, which you want. Also the shoelaces are ridiculously short. Again made for flat feet. I can barely make a knot in them let alone try to make a heel lock to keep the low heel from sleeping. I would love for La Sportiva to make a shoe that fits high volume feet like the Wide Ulttra Raptors, but with a 4-6mm drop and gives some precision and feel vs the protective humvee feel of the raptors. Raptors make great hiking shoes when carrying weight over 20lbs, but are too heavy for any serious running
I’ve been wearing these for about a month. I’m happy with them but, not as happy as I’ve been with my older Sportivas. The arch has changed- not as high as I need it so my feet get tired. Old Sportivas fit my foot like a glove and I still wear them after three years! The width is perfect . It is still the best sport shoe I can find in the US. Thank you Italy!!
