Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

I would have given these a 5 star, but sadly Altra chose to decrease the width of the toe-box. The wide toe box was the reason I bought my first pair of Altras (Rivera 2), and loved them so much. I have found if I push my foot into the shoe all the way to the end as I put them on, and wiggle my toes around before I lace them up, I am able to relieve any discomfort around the base of my big toe, but had I tried these on in a store I would likely not have purchased them.

Narrow Toe Box

I’ve purchased several Altra shoes, each with a wider toe box, so I hoped these would give me the same experience but I had to return them. The fit was too snug

Very comfy but poor build quality

These shoes are incredibly comfortable and lightweight. I tend to supinate a bit and so far they seem stable for that, I'm not seeing the wear on the outside of the sole that I sometimes see. However, I'm rating only 3 stars because after less than two months of wear one of the pieces of contrast color rubber on the sole started coming off. I re-glued it with Barge's (a cement we use at my job on shoe soles regularly) but now it is coming off again, as well as the same piece on the other shoe. It's too bad as I absolutely love the feel of this shoe and it looks like the Rivera 4 model has the same contrast color soles so I'm not optimistic the problem has been fixed. For a running shoe of this price and quality I expect better longevity.

Excellent quality - Great support - Fun colors!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product for free to try out and review. I'm on my feet a lot each day and I walk/run - so I feel like I can give a pretty good review of these after a few weeks of consistently wearing them. I've worn many different brands of athletic shoes. To me, the feel of these most closely compare to my New Balance shows. They breathe and they fit the narrow part of my foot really well. They have excellent support and kept my feet feeling good all day long. The color is fun and I get a lot of compliments on that. They fit true to size. My only complaint is that the shoelaces are slick and narrow. They tend to come loose easier than other laces. I will be changing those out. But other than that, they are perfect!

Shoes arrived used

The shoes came to me worn. Nothing in description or anything says that they were used so I don’t understand why I got a pair of used shoes. Two stars because the shoes themselves are decent. They’re just worn visibly

Like walking on clouds!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been wearing these as I've been training daily the past few weeks and WOW! What a difference they make! They're super light, which helps to enhance my longevity and performance, and they absorb a lot of shock to feel as if I'm walking on clouds. I have high arches and they comfortably shape to my feet. For those looking at style, they are extremely pretty sneakers. I love the bold color that has a bit of shine to it so you can reflect if running or walking at night. I was really impressed. I did have one day with a lot of walking where I blistered the backs of my ankles, but that had more to do with my ankle socks creating friction as I trained. I'd highly recommend these shoes. Also, they may feel tight the first time you put them on, but they quickly adjust, break in, and open up to create more room for your foot.

Shoes are not wide toed at all

I bought these as they were labeled to have a wider, more natural fit. Completely untrue. I took them out of the box and immediately saw how narrow the toes are. They are no wider than my regular tennis shoes and much less wide than a different brand I own, as shown in the pictures.

Great shoe for narrow feet

I have narrow feet and really like these shoes. Other shoes like the Olympus swallow my feet. These fit perfectly. Other reviews said the toe box isn’t wide but that’s not true. It is wide and plenty roomy if you have narrow feet. That’s who this particular shoe is designed for. If you have wide feet, go with a different model like the Olympus. My only issue is what others have mentioned, that the shoe laces don’t stay tied. Also the padding seems to wear down a bit over time (I’ve used them for over a year). I’d be interested in a shoe like this for narrow feet but with a bit more support in the sole.

Please add 2" to the shoelaces!

Just got the shoes and looking forward to taking them for a run. However, I won't be able to do that as soon as I'd like, because I need to find a different pair of shoelaces. Had the same issue with the Paradigm 7 - I need the heel-lock lacing, and I don't think my feet are exceptionally large, but after I do the heel-lock loop there isn't enough lace to actually tie the shoes. With what we pay for running shoes, would it kill you guys to give a slightly longer lace? They can always be double-knotted!

best running shoes I've tried!

These are my favorite running shoes, by far - I will absolutely repurchase in the future! I am usually a 7.5 in street shoes, and 7 in athletic shoes. The 7 fit perfectly! This is a true narrow shoe, with space for the foot to sit naturally as it strikes the ground. VERY comfortable for distance runs, even on pavement, and very light and breathable!

I wouldn't buy them again because I use a runner knot

I have two pairs of these shoes, and they are definitely different than the first two Riveras. They are better than Rivera 2, but not as cushy as Rivera 1. The biggest difference is that the foot bed is way slimmer than the Rivera 1 or 2. They made a mistake by making the shoelaces way too short, then they gave us shoelaces that become untied. So you have to double knot them. Because the laces are too short, you can barely do a runners knot unless the shoe is tied up so tight. Too tight. I asked them if they would make good on their little mistake and send me some longer shoelaces, but they said they don't have any and to go buy my own.
