Amazingly comfortable and warm boots

First, these are just really comfortable boots. Enough width for my somewhat wide feet, internal padding and materials that are soft as pillows without being overly pillowy. Lighter than I expected for a pair of boots with spikes built in. First hikes in the shoes were great. The lugged and spiked soles give confidence on just about any surface (not so much on flat smooth rock) and I am looking forward to the weather worsening so I can enjoy them in ice and snow. The boa lace replacement was a curiosity for me in hiking boots - would the narrow wire bite into my feet? Turned out they were perfect. Great to have the immediate adjustability and the tongue gives plenty of cushion. Really great.

Great winter hiking boots!

I use these boots so I can safely continue to run our dogs in the Maine winter months. They were very comfortable right out of the box. I wear a size 12 and these fit as expected with a medium weight wool sock. My previous set up was adding a traction device to my running shoes. These shoes are so much lighter and you don’t notice the spikes when on varied terrain. The studs on the bottom make it a blast to run on ice and snow because you can literally stop on a dime and change direction as if you were on dry ground. The closure system works great and did not create any hotspots which is usually an issue I have with new boots. I would highly recommend them for people wanting to continue their adventures into the winter months.

Impressive grip, great support, good quality

I recently used for light hiking in fresh snow at Snoqualmie Pass, WA. The boots are versatile and gripped the snow extremely well. They would clearly perform well in icy conditions but I did not experience ice on that day. The BOA dial lace system was very convenient. It was the first shoe I’ve used them on so it was a new experience. It takes just a minute or two to figure it out. They might want to put in the box a short instruction on the dial system, but it’s easy to figure out. As mentioned, the micro spike work really well! But, of course don’t go walking indoors at home, as they could damage a hardwood floor. I liked the smart design in this Icebug winter boot to put a bit of extra room in the toe box to accommodate winter socks and so your toes don’t get too cramped or cold or cuts off circulation. The hiking weather was mild, 32f and less than 5 inches of snow.

Good traction on icy streets

I tried on the Icebug Stavre M BUGrip GTX on snow and ice amid below freezing temperatures. Pros: - kept my foot warm in 20+ degrees Fahrenheit - Socks did not get wet despite the snow and slush with the waterproof Gore-Tex membrane - BOA fit system made it super easy to tighten the laces by twisting the button, and a single pull on the same button releases the laces so you can take off the shoe with minimal effort (I’m able to put the shoes on even with gloves) - The BUGrip outsole has 16 steel studs which kept my feet steady even on slippery black ice on pavement. I did not experience any snow caking on the sole which I usually notice in other traction devices. - The fit is great. I usually wear size M9.5 wide in street shoes but I ordered a size 10 since I planned on wearing very thick wool socks. - Very comfortable and light (460g), not heavy at all Cons: - Studs were slightly noisy when walking on clear pavement - Limited color selection - Shoe height is just over the ankle - A bit on the expensive side, but if you factor in buying a pair of shoes and adding a traction device, the cost would be almost the same I have not used them for hiking on inclines yet so I’m not sure if they will provide the same stability in less urban environments. I definitely would recommend this shoe if you want to have traction when going around icy streets.

Well Made

These boots fit well and seem to be solidly made. The lacing system tightens it up very nicely with a few turns of the knob. Release is instantaneous by simply pulling the knob up. It gives the boots a trim look and makes putting them on and taking them off a breeze. Gore-Tex helps the boots breath and should keep feet dry in the snow. The studs, meant to adapt to different surfaces, give the sole a different feel when walking on a cement sidewalk. Since cold weather hasn't set in and the ground remains soggy, the soles and studs pick up dirt when walking off pavement. They are correctly not recommended for inside wear; I believe the studs would damage the hardwood floors. We have not yet had any slippery conditions to use them in, though I fully expect they will provide better traction than standard footwear on icy walkways. When, and if, our delayed winter arrives I look foreword to regularly using them.

Excellent lightweight snow/ice grippy shoe

I got these to review from REI. I live in Minnesota and plan to put these through a winter of ice fishing. Initial report for now. The fit is a little on the small side. I usually wear a 9. I got 9 1/2 and they fit well with just plain socks on. fit will be about perfect with heavier socks. The have a cinch lace deal that works great to quickly and evenly tighten the shoe. They are lightly insulated, but the insulation they have is warm. at 40 degrees outside my feet got warm with just casual walking. The cleats initially looked like hard rubber. After a little walking the rubber wore off (in a normal good way) to reveal metal studs. These do a great job of gripping the bit of snow and hard leaves we have so far. For the diameter of the studs i expect they will do excellent on ice. The one drawback so far is the studs are loud on hard surfaces. I am also concerned about how fast they will wear down when walking on rocks, concrete or pavement. I will update after more use on this. Definitely seem like they need to stay on ice or softer surfaces vs pavement or similar. I normally use neos overshoes for similar purposes. these are lighter and less bulky. probably similar warmth. A little better grip due to smaller diameter studs that dig in more aggressively. Overall these should be plenty warm down to about 10F as long as i keep moving decently. They are comfortable, a little small on sizing. Grip is great.
