Dysfunctional Poles

I bought the Komperdell Alpinist trekking poles and was very dissatisfied with the lower locking mechanism which actually in two stes of poles does not lock despite the reasonable adjustments. Mostly, I found Komperdell very unresponsive to admission of the Dysfuction and unwilling to replace the defective poles

Best Hiking sticks EVER! Quality beyond Measure!

Boy, these are THE NICEST WALKING/Hiking sticks i have EVER seen! The quality is AMAZING! Easy adjustment and reliable stability. Some others talked about the retainers being loose, not the case for me, but even IF they became loose, all you need is a standard screw driver or a Phillips head to snug them up. PLUS, they come with a THREE YEAR unconditional warranty! HOW can you beat that!???

Nice poles, but need a care and maintenance guide

Nice poles, but one had a loose clamp and it wasn’t holding the pole adjustment during my 2nd trip out. I finished the hike using just one pole. This review is only 3 stars because the manufacturer really didn’t provide good care instructions, so I took them into my local REI store for help tightening the loose clamp. That did not go well. The lady who helped me—who had hiking poles herself, she said—tightened the bottom clamps on both poles while the poles were collapsed (and note, they are tapered at the bottom). She thought they were both quite loose and I figured she knew what she was doing. But this morning when I went to extend the poles at the start of my hike and clamp them in place, the clamps were so tight there was no way I could close them. I had to adjust the upper clamps to a taller setting and keep the lower section of the poles just barely extended (maybe about 4”) just enough so I could close the clamps but they were still tight. For the whole hike, I was unsure if the poles would hold. Thankfully they did. I will readjust the clamps myself, but if the clamps loosen again I may decide to return the poles. I need to have confidence in their stability. Otherwise, nice light comfortable poles.
