Adventure watch for everyone.

If it's been a while since you purchased a fitness tracker or are looking to upgrade from your current smart watch, this watch will not disappoint. I'm in no way a professional athlete, nor participate in triathlons, but still love this watch for basic activities like walks, mountain biking, hikes, heading to the gym, sleep monitoring, etc. It works seamlessly with the app and the watch interface is easy and highly interactive. There's a ton of reviews online I suggest checking out before purchasing, but for anyone who's fitness motivated, this watch is super fun and the battery life is second to none.

Dim screen not as good as FR 945, Great Style &GPS

I was a little hesitant about purchasing the Fenix 7 as my wife has a Fenix 6 Sapphire and her screen is very dark in normal conditions. Because of her watch, I avoided the sapphire version. Also, I was not sure about the added weight over the FR 945, the weight turned out to be a nonissue. As soon as I took the Fenix 7 Solar out of the box and plugged it in to charge I was disappointed in the dimness and lack of clarity of the screen. I even checked to see if there was an extra screen protector on the Fenix 7 Solar as it was so dim while charging. There was not. I'm coming from a FR 945 which has a very viewable screen in just about every light condition. I took the watch for a run that afternoon after charging, with my FR 945 on the other wrist. In just about all light conditions the 945 was easier to read. In addition to the lack of screen readability, the charging cable is loose on my Fenix 7 Solar. I compared it to a FR 935, two FR 945s, and a Fenix 6 Sapphire. All of which hold the charging cable better, most had a very satisfying click when putting them on the charger. When I plugged the Fenix 7 Solar into my computer to download Topo maps, it lost connection with the computer because the wire was loose on the watch. On the positive side, after a run and a bike ride I can see that the GPS is more accurate than the FR 945 (which was worse than the 935). The Fenix 7 Solar follwed the running paths and road very closely, where the 945 had me running over buildings or in the middle of the road when I was on a sidewalk. Also, the styling is much improved over the FR line. I really want to love this watch, however, after 3 days I'm disappointed and undecided.

Amazing smart watch!

This is the best smart watch that I have ever worn. For years I searched for a watch that is geared towards activities outdoors. One that has great maps and navigation. This is that watch! The battery charge lasts me a week on average. The only thing that I will caution, the "solar" feature on the watch will not charge the watch. This feature will keep your watch from losing anymore charge as long as it is exposed to the sun. All in all, this watch is worth every penny that I paid for it and more!

Unable to pair with iPhone

I bought this watch for the looks alone beautiful looking watch , I was excited about it when I got it I was unable to pair up right away w my iPhone I had to rely on trouble searching after almost 45 minutes I was able to pair up, I dl the app and started wearing it Approximately 1 hr after the watch stopped working, complete dead. The watch was at 97percent when I started wearing it. Big disappointment. I charged it over night and the next day Still dead, back in the box And sent it back. SMH I had to opt out for my second choice I watch w a rugged case. Not bad so far. That was my experience.

Take control of your health

My “Garmin world” started a couple of years ago with the purchase of my 66i In Reach. I do a lot of backcountry fly fishing and love the SOS feature of wilderness travel. Recently, after investigating the features of the new smart watches by Garmin, my wife purchased the fenix 7 for my BDay. Tracking my alpine skiing adventures was the initial thought. The reward I never anticipated was the monitoring of sleep and body recovery patterns. You find yourself accountable to your watch to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Sleep scores and training readiness are so key to your overall lifestyle. At 75 years old, I have taken a new look at the importance of “listening to my body”. Thank you Garmin.

Best value. Hope solar will not impact batt life

I use it for running, rowing and cycling. Both indoors and outdoors. Not sure about solar feature necessity, because it is covered or not directed to sun most of the time. I hope sun charging will not impact battery life, because of charging cycles limitation. All other features migrated from previous versions with exception of touch screen as really new feature. Health and stamina a great features for training, but are useless for racing, because cannot measure mental strength status. What is total expected. Great device and support combination. Ask me if need details. I had to contact customer service many times and always had positive experience.

A step up from my old Fenix 3 and easy to manage.

When i looked at the features on line and glanced at the manual, there was some fear that the device would be too complex. I was delighted to see it was all very intuitive and one could easily learn most of the features without digging through the manuals. The simple set up really helps as you can prioritize the apps that you use in the menus. The heart rate monitor works really well without the need for a chest strap.I basically use the device for gym, bike, hikes and walks. So I thought maybe I don't need all the other features. But the health, heart and sleep data is worth it. The watch exceeded my expectations.

Not worth it

After much research into a replacement for my old Suunto Ambit, I purchased the Fenix 7 Solar. After trying it for a couple weeks, I ultimately exchanged it for a Suunto 9 Peak Pro. My use case is multisport training including primarily running, cycling, xc-skiing, alpine skiing, and hiking. I was attracted to this model for the long battery life with the solar charging and hoped to make use of the mapping features it offered. What I found out is that the mapping is all-but-useless on such a small display, at least for my aging eyes, and especially in overcast, flat or dim light. So the main differentiating feature (mapping) for all Garmin Fenix models when compared with other brands is basically not worth the bother in many lighting conditions. I'm planning some long distance hikes in potentialy rainy weather in the UK, and felt this would end up being noticed a lot. The other disappointment was with the Garmin software. Although improved somewhat since I last owned a Garmin watch (older Forerunner), the Garmin apps are still futzy, bloated and generally not polished. Some things you can do only on the phone app while others require going to the desktop. It's all very disjointed and needs some serious reworking. Given all of the resources Garmin has at their disposal being a market leader in the fitness and navigation devices, I expected better. I'm back in Suunto-land once again without mapping on my wrist, but the 9 Peak Pro otherwise does everything I need it to do, at a lower price and with higher build quality, lighter weight, and slimmer on the wrist, to boot. The Suunto App is more than adequate for tracking long-term training trends, and I like iPad version of their app, which Garmin lacks. The battery life on the 9 Peak Pro seems about on par with the Fenix, even without solar. Maybe under sunny conditions in warm (non-jacket) weather the solar would offer a slight longevity advantage. I briefly considered switching to the Garmin Epix and would expect the mapping experience to be better on its Amoled display than on the Fenix series. But the Epix is quite a spendy piece of kit, with inferior battery life compared to practically all other sports watches except for the Apple Watch, which blows it away for smartwatch features. And with the Epix you are still hampered by the unsatisfying Garmin Connect app and desktop software. So...pass.

Best watch I have ever owned.

I don't expensive or spend lots of time outdoors. I only want to know what the date and time is. What I like: Its a true standalone watch that doesn't need to routinely synced to a smartphone. Its battery life is 1 day per 1% charge on Time Only mode. 100% charge = 100 days of battery (time only mode). It doesn't use Wear OS. It uses Garmins own proprietary OS. Looks Nice. Feels like a heavy duty hard core watch. I get to brag to my coworkers that my smart watch is more expensive than theirs. What I don't like: The solar charging doesn't work very well. I'm not 100% sure it works at all. I subtracted 1 star for this. If this were a model that wasn't said to have solar charging it would be a 5 star watch. They need to provide more info about solar charging to potential customers.
