Long Life
The main reason why I selected this watch is the LONG battery life. And it does not disappoint. I owned an Apple Ultra watch...that my girlfriend stole from me...hahah....and it was a nice watch but like all the other Apple Watches that I owned, it had to be charged every night. And if I wanted to play a round of golf with it, it needed to be fully charged or it would quit before the round was over. Both watches have their pluses and minuses, but the longevity and build quality of this watch make it worth the extra money.
Epic versus Marq
I have owned the last two versions of the Garmin Fenix (including the 7) and the Garmin Epix Gen 2 Pro. I liked all three and the Epix Gen 2 Pro Sapphire is a great watch that I have worn on many outdoor activities. The Epix black case dings a bit, and it doesn’t improve with age like some of my other watches. I own a couple of Omega watches and the Marq reminds me a my Omega Co-Axial Moonwatch automatic for how it looks on my wrist — they look generally similar. But the Garmin Adventurer has the smart watch features that I really miss when wearing an Omega outdoors. Although the Garmin leather band is nice on the Adventurer, I’ve replaced the band with a leather Omega style deployment strap and a real Omega deployment buckle for the perfect smart watch look. Is it worth the extra $1,000? I think of it that the Epix is the perfect smart watch but it doesn’t look great. For a model of watch that I’ve worn every day for three years am I willing to pay more for a watch that looks like a well-made time piece? Yes.
Beautiful watch! Some fundamental tech problems
I love this watch, but for a couple of rather fundamental user issues. First, the bluetooth range to the phone is quite limited. If you dont have your phone on you at all times, you will constantly be notified with a connected / disconnected notification. I am aware that this feature can be disabled, but then you lose the desired functionality of telling you whether you actually left your phone behind, not just when you walk to the kitchen. The 2nd problem is linked. The vibration motor in this watch can be very loud. It seems linked to the orientation of your wrist, but sometimes I will get a notification and people across the room hear the buzz (yes, I have sound turned off). This is completely unacceptable for a $2k watch. This is to be a silent notification and it sounds like a 2000's era Nokia phone vibe. I reached out to Garmin support on this and they advised me to return the watch, which I did. I also re-purchased and the new watch has a similar problem. I am torn about whether to return the 2nd one because I do love the watch. But for $2k this thing should be as quiet as a $200 Apple Watch, which it is not even close to.
Love the watch
Love this watch! Was gunna spend more for the other marq watch but this one was a better buy with the REI rewards. Would recommend with all its feature and downloads you can add. Love the battery too.
Excellent Watch but Returned Goods at Full Price
I have less of an issue with the watch itself, though the watch can do with some software improvements. For a watch that costs over $2K, a user must not be calculating his stride lengths for the software to calculate steps for indoor walking (not an issue for outdoor walking since it uses GPS/Satellite for that); even with that, the step count is not fully accruate. Samsung watch, which is one tenth the price of this watch, does a much better job calculating indoor walking steps without the user having to do any manual set-up work. For that, I would rate the watch four (4) stars only, otherwise, it is a solid watch and is very good looking. My biggest issue is with REI. After spending over $2K on a watch, they sent me a used one, not a new one. How can I tell? The box was unsealed and there is some wear on the watch and the straps. REI should not be charging full price for reselling goods returned by other customers. Based on reviews by other customers, seems like this issue is common to REI. My one star rating is for that reason; wish I can do zero star rating. I am seriouly consideting returning the watch and buying it from a different retailer (since I do like the watch other than the minor software annoyance I mentioned above).
love my Marq
Is it expensive? Yes. Is it one of my most valued possession? Also yes. My partner got this watch as a gift for me this year. I love it.
The best
Great watch …good looking with every feature you could need . And touch screen
Should have gone with a Fenix 8
Looks great and is a very nice watch. For the price, I wish it had battery capacity similar to Tactix and Enduro. Love the amoled screen, but preserving the battery means a dark watch face most of the time - even when tracking a run/ride/ other activities. Problem...
