Solid t-shirt for backpacking
Sarah
This is a long-term review after using this shirt for about 1200 miles (about 3 months) of my Appalachian Trail thru-hike. I wanted merino as I needed all the help I could get managing hiker stink. This shirt dried reasonably fast, was comfortable, and didn't hold on to stink as badly as full synthetic fabrics. My first merino t-shirt from another brand was not durable enough for backpacking and pilled a lot, which made it itchy. On average, I would wear it for 6 days of hiking between proper washings, though it might get rained on or rinsed out (to manage sweaty salt buildup) in between. By the last week, it had worn tissue-thin in spots, but I was able to reinforce around the holes as a field repair to keep me going. This was not in a direct friction spot like under a strap. I wish the sleeves were a little longer as my inner arms could get irritated by my backpack straps, but this was a rare occurrence for me.

The material, cut, fit and overall style of this shirt is amazing -- however its see-through. Like you can see your skin through it level of transparent.

Shrinks!

This shirt runs large, but SHRINKS a ton if you accidentally throw it in the dryer. I own quite a few merino products and usually tumble dry on low, this is the first item I've ever had that shrunk so dramatically. I realized after that the care tag says to line dry, so if you buy it, make sure not to stick it in the dryer (at all!). Also, this shirt has a pretty low merino wool percentage (only 40%), and I didn't love the feel of the fabric. I also didn't like how the shirt fit (either before or after it massively shrunk). I love Icebreaker products but this one was a miss for me.

A chic top for sunny days!

I absolutely adore the fit of this shirt, the Passion color is so vibrant in person! If you have a longer torso, I would recommend sizing up. I have a shorter torso, and the size S fits like a glove. This shirt is going to be a staple for me this spring and summer. I'm excited to take it biking, hiking, trail running, and wear it as a stylish piece. The Passion color added a fun pop to my wardrobe. Merino and Tencel fabric have truly won my trust in warm weather!!

Great T

I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable it was even in hot tropical climates- it didn’t prevent me from being sweaty and sticky but it remained comfy and dried real quickly when washed. I know.. it doesn’t get smelly but when it gets crusted with sweat salt you gotta wash it

Great shirt

Love the fit. Not as snug as some. It is light weight yet not see-through which is great. I bought the shirt in black and will get a few more. Is nice and warm under a shirt and also great as a tee when it's sunny.

*very* see-through, different neckline, versus 2023 version

I love my 2023 Sphere II Cool-lite t-shirts in light blue, but this one is way too see-through! Even indoors in normal light, the outline of my belly button, my sports bra (which matches my skin color) and straps, and the top of my shorts all show through clearly. Don't want to imagine a photo from a sunny day outside. They also made the neckline less flattering and versatile (IMO) by eliminating the slight scoop of last year's. Returning this one and keeping it in black (despite the neckline) though I really wanted a happier color and the slight scoop neck.

Silkiest wool blend fabric ever!

I own a lot of wool-blend tshirts at this point, and the Icebreaker Sphere II is the silkiest of them all. It's a perfect travel shirt, and I'll be taking it on ALL my adventure trips in the future. I'm wearing the heather gray one now and honestly, it feels like you're not wearing anything. Even my hubby who thinks wool is always itchy is jealous and asked me to order a different color in the men's Sphere II for him. As for the sizing, it's spot on. If this fantastic t-shirt is on sale and you're considering buying one - go for it.

Perfect light merino tshirt

I love this shirt I wear this almost every adventure. It is very light but is perfect for California heat. I’m an icebreaker stan. I think it does run a bit small if you like a roomier fit.

Great fit

Love this brand for a daily, layered top in cooler temperatures. It is fitted, yet not tight and appreciate the lightweight material. Fits perfect on my slender body. Although I often wear an XS in many tops, I prefer the small for this one due to a slightly looser fit.
