Soft but sheer material
I kept it because it was on sale but it’s very sheer and I’ll need to wear a tank top underneath it

Almost great but too sheer
I was excited to see these shirts. The fiber combination is great and I have a bunch of heavier-weight smartwool shirts that I really like. I ordered one in serene blue and one in coral reef. As other reviewers noted, they are very sheer. Beyond bra visibility, I worry more about how much sun is getting through the fabric. Smartwool definitely nailed the cool summer weight of these shirts, but I don't want to have to put on sunscreen under my summer shirts. Their model photos definitely do not convey how sheer this fabric is.

Favorite trail shirt!

This is my favorite of all my merino shirts. I tend to sweat a lot when I hike and it’s super breathable, dries quickly, and fights odor. It is slightly see through in bright lighting but with a sports bra, I don’t mind. (I have black) It’s a small sacrifice for the ultra thin fabric. I wish they made more colors, as I would order several more. I have the same shirt in the tank version and the long sleeve. The tank and short sleeve seem to run a tad large. I was able to wear a medium as they’re more fitted in the shoulders and have a slightly wider lower half. The long sleeve fits a little more like a base layer and I’ll need to send it back for a large.

super breathable and soft

First, this review is for the black shirt. It’s not see-thru :) I brought this shirt on a trip and wore it for a few hikes. It’s the perfect weight -allows breathability and resists odor. Dries fast. I wore it multiple times between washes and even to bed. It’s probably the most comfortable shirt I own- it’s soooo soft. I’m awkwardly between an M/L in smartwool and I sized up to a Large so I could tie the side. It’s adorable. Note on colors: I agree with the other reviews related to the shirt being see-thru for lighter colors, but the black is perfect.

Perfect Shirt - But Runs Really Big

I love Smartwool, I have several of their shirts, all in size medium. I love this shirt, it is very light and breezy and a great color, it would be perfect for running in hot weather... BUT, the medium I ordered is very big, it seems to be at least a size large, possibly an XL. I highly recommend this shirt, but size down at least one size. I am going to reorder in a smaller size.

Too Sheer

This is a lovely, soft and very light shirt. It is true to size. However, it was quite sheer. (I bought the light green color.) I am not a person who likes to show off my bra while hiking. I returned it.

Flawed material spoils otherwise nice t-shirt

This t-shirt is comfortable, breathes well, and is versatile to layer or wear by itself. The generous cut is welcome for us gals who aren't as athletically built. However, after two gentle launderings with garments of similar type and weight it developed several holes in the knit fabric. Chose to return to REI, not confident that attempting to mend would be successful.

Lightweight for summer

I bought this in light green and black and love it! It’s lightweight and truly comfortable for hot summer days, great for layering, staying comfortable and odor control. The green is a little bit sheer but a nude bra takes care of that. The sizing is a standard cut, not skin tight.

No thanks.

Too much flare at the hem line. I had to return it. Not like the other women’s tee’s that I have purchased in the past. Still love smartwool though as a company!

Testing

I bought the black top. I thought it would be itchy. It felt quite smooth and very comfortable. I’m sensitive to textures. This is not 100% merino wool. I washed it on cold and dried it on low. It didn’t shrink noticeably. I wore it in high 83 degrees and it was like were a light weight, fine textured T-shirt. I’m trying it out to find out if it will resist body odor if I were it multiple days. So far so good.
