Comfort and Design; Top Notch

I have been using Gregory products for 10+ years now. I have most of my experience using the FreeFloat A3 system, which is amazing. But I wanted to try the FreeFloat 360. I have been very impressed with the comfort this pack provides. During the trips in my attached pictures I had it loaded up to 38+ pounds. The pack is very stable over intermediate and advanced hiking terrain. It has been to Kings Peak UT, Red Castle UT and a couple smaller overnight trips in the high country. The pocket setup make internal gear accessibility top notch. The full length side-loading access zipper is very handy rather than having to go through the front. I like the oversized front zippered compartment, it made storing my small items very convenient. Overall, anyone looking to carry 30+ pounds, this thing carries like a dream!

Great For Big Adventure

Very happy with this pack! I took it straight out to the White Mountains of New Hampshire (without a break-in period which is my own fault for lack of patients) and did a 30 mile Pemi Loop over two days. The bag did it’s job. It took a couple adjustments to find the sweet spot, but it’s comfortable and helps distribute the weight of a multi day trip. Plenty of room for 2+ days. My one grumble was the the shoulder straps feeling narrow where they met around the neck. Again, I haven’t broken it in yet, so I’m sure that gentle hugging feeling will form over time.

Overall great pack!

I finally had the opportunity to take my Katmai 65 on an overnight backpacking trip to San Gorgonio Mountain. This pack replaced my Baltoro 65 which has seen me through numerous adventures. The Katmai boasts the same load capacity 60 litres/45 lb max carry as the Baltoro but at almost a pound lighter. It carried my 30# load (including food and water) like a champ. The hip belt pads need some time to wear in as to be expected. The customizable torso length and hip belt really allow you to dial-in the fit. I got the S/M torso length (I'm 5'10" 170lbs) and was just in-between sizes. I like the upgraded upper shock locks for the trekking poles and the larger hip belt pockets. I plan on taking my Katmai 65 on the Appalachian Trail next spring!

Awesome backpack

Great pack! Definitely one of the best of its kind that is out there. I took it out on a 13 mile adventure, and the pack was very comfortable and very well ventilated throughout. They've really put a lot of thought into the features. The main compartment is very spacious and there are a lot of pockets/smaller compartments to organize stuff. I love the bottle holster feature and the ability to access your stuff through the side zipper. Feels like a backpack created by actual backpackers.

Finally

Finally. A top-end backpack that actually fits my big body. At 6'6" and 320lbs., with a 48" waist, this is the first pack that doesn't force me to compromise on comfort. A serious game-changer for larger humans of all shapes and sizes. That said, this pack is no novelty act. Ingeniously designed harness system (FreeFlow 3D) moves with you flawlessly once dialed in, providing excellent air flow across your back while keeping your load tight and secure. The wide shoulder harness reduces upper body stresses as the day goes on. Pockets on the hip belt are set forward for easy access. Good strappage to keep your loads in place. Included straps on the bottom for a pad is a nice touch. This is a heavy-duty pack, capable of comfortably hauling big loads on long days. Not terribly weighty but certainly not ultralight. Been through a half-dozen packs in the past ten years. They're all great packs, but finally finding one that actually fits is fantastic. Good job; Gregory!

Sweet Pack

Really loved this backpack. It’s comfortable and I felt like I could go all day with it. I’m 5’10” and I had it adjusted about as short as it goes. It’s got a spot for all my gear and I especially like having the bottom and side access zippers. I also like how it’s easy to get to my water bottle without taking my backpack off.

Lightweight, Comfortable, and Practical

I been on quite a few backpacking trips and have always borrowed packs, but this is the first one that I own and I absolutely love it. One of my favorite features about this pack is that it has tons of storage space. You have the main compartment that can be accessed from the top, bottom, or side (game changer when you have to get things out and they are located in the middle of the pack) as well as additional storage space that you can access through the top zipper as well from the front of the back. The compartments are all easy to access and a nice touch to the pack. I also love how everything is adjustable from the straps as well as the chest strap. I have borrowed previous packs where I couldn't adjust the chest strap or it was a little off and it got more in the way than helped. Being able to adjust the straps to your need optimizes comfort. In addition to comfort the hip belts are thick and padded which provide good support, the pockets on each side are a good addition to add snacks, bars, or other small items when hiking. With comfort the freefloat 360 back support works great for breathability. You will stay cool and your back will be less sweaty on those long days! The bag itself looks great, and will be pack that I use for many many years. Definitely provides LOTS of value!

Best Backpack I have ever owned!

Gregory did an outstanding job on just about every aspect on the design and production of this backpack. Fit and function are great. No hot spots so far, came out of the box, packed, and hit the trail for a local hike without any break in period at all. Very impressive. “Free Float” keeps the pack well ventilated from the back and air can actually travel through- this is probably my favorite feature. It is the backpack I will actually reach for time and again because it actually adapts with my body. Because of the air movement, I was not worried about the Polygiene technology to keep it from stinking. After more use and more sweat I’ll be able to comment on that, right now it is fine, but it’s good to know it’s built in. Another feature that is great is the shoulder strap attachment actually moves, it does not stay static, and moves with your body as you move. The balance of the load is excellent because of this. Design is top notch. So many features to make it customizable. Will continue to adjust it as I use it more. My favorite features to date are the large side zipper access for bigger items and the small zippered pocket on both sides of the belt for smaller items. Gregory gets big kudos for the water bottle pocket - it’s easy to access if you want it, but if you don’t, it stows away and stays in place with a velcro tab. Fabrics, U-pull zippers, construction are all sturdy and the lifetime warranty backs up the design and construction. The pack is made of recycled materials and research made me feel good about the company’s commitment to sustainability. One other thing I love about this company: in doing the research they make packs in plus sizes for EVERY BODY. Equal opportunity for all size hikers - my kind of company and one I feel good supporting. Gregory also gets big points for their product video showing all the functions and how to adapt it for your own body and use. It’s one thing to read it, it’s really helpful to SEE it and helped to “learn” the specifics of this pack. One of the best product demonstrations I have ever seen and shows commitment to their product and understanding their customers. Only negative is a lack of included rain cover - if you want you need to purchase separately. This is my first Gregory product but I am so pleased I am already looking at their other products to add to my Katmai 65. Fit, weight, function, construction, looks, and access, company commitment to sustainability and a lifetime guarantee. I’ll be back.

Holy Suspension System Batman!

Pros: I've used a very similar backpack from a competitor, and the suspension system on this backpack is the best I've used. It gently disperses weight over a larger surface area. It feels roomier around your physical frame than other comparable backpacks. It also does not speak when walking, which is a downfall of competitors backpacks. The storage compartments feel larger as well, and the water bottle holster is super cool. It's similar to the competition but better in every way. The final and most important part about this pack that I enjoy is the sustainability which is detailed in the pictures. Cons: Color selection is poor at best. The blue is pretty. I wouldn't hike with a black backpack for heat reasons. Why they don't have other colors is confusing, especially for a company of their size.

Great features but already tearing after one trip.

For the price of this pack I was expecting it to be much more durable. I took it for one trip through a canyon in Utah and it could not handle light brushes up against the rocks as I was climbing up and down through the canyon. The mesh on the front and side pockets already has a few minor holes in it. I’m sure it would be a great pack if you’re simply walking along easy trails, but it is not the pack for a more high adventure excursion. Pretty disappointed overall.
