I took this pack out on a backpacking trip, 3 days, moderate hiking but I wore it for extended periods of time. Things to note about this pack, it carries a lot of course, it's got a compartment for your water bladder, external pockets, side pockets, sleeping bag compartment. All the bells and whistles. The two things that set this pack apart from the others I've purchased in the past: 1) it has a giant front zip. You can actually access things in the bottom of it without completely unloading on the trail. Gamechanger. 2) the reason I pick this pack over my others, and recommend it to any woman. The hips on this thing. They're super padded, they sit on my waist/hips perfectly. It doesn't chafe me. When backpacking, usually by day 2 or 3 I have my hands down each of the hip compartments, blocking it from rubbing against my hips. I've straight up gotten rug burn there before. This pack does NOT do it. It's amazing. The only downside, and it's small, is that the brain or top compartment doesn't come off. So if you're doing a smaller trip or something, your still stuck with that. Who cares, it's great.
I have taken this pack on one 3 day/2 night backpacking trip, and so far I like it a lot. The 70 L was almost too much space for everything for 2 nights, including a warm, bulky sleeping back and warm clothes. The shoulder and waist straps were very comfortable. There are sooo many little features and straps that would make this pack perfect for longer or more technical trips. Four in particular were very useful for me: 1) straps with buckles at the base to hold a sleeping pad, 2) 2 separate pockets in the outside of the brain, one smaller and one bigger, 3) very spacious pockets on the hip straps that can easily hold a phone, snacks, maps, etc, and 4) a tight mesh pocket on the shoulder strap perfect for carrying sunglasses when it gets shady or dark. I didn't bring a helmet or ice ax on this trip, but there are straps and elastics on the outside that would be great for carrying them. I can't speak to the long term durability of the pack yet, but the water bottle pocket isn't mesh, which is a good sign for minimizing rips.
This pack feels like it was always meant to be on your back! It fits like a glove! It has all the features you'd want and more. I also appreciate that it's very light while still maintaining lots of room for everything you'd need on the trail!
Getting backpacks is always tricky for me since I have a longer torso but slimmer frame. I love the concept of the Deva 70 pack where the sizing overlaps a bit so it's more forgiving on sizing. I got the small and I was able to adjust the velcro backing to make the torso part longer so that the hip pack sat nicely on my hips. I probably could have sized up to a Medium as well. The backpack itself has so many cool pockets, zippers etc. Took some practice to get the best use out of all of the neat features. It stored SO much and helped keep things really organized and within reach. Very comfy. Overall a solid backpacking pack that I would recommend to friends and family.
