Bought this as a small, compact and lightweight daytime running light, and for some early evening rides as a dim headlight. In that regard it works well. Due to the size, using it as a constant headlight drained the battery fast, and I found that I had to charge this up before every ride where I planned to use it. This wasn't an issue and was fairly happy with the unit for my use case. Where I'm disappointed is that just over one year in, the plastic housing of the light simply sheered off the back in the middle of a ride! It seems like the weight of the battery, combined with road vibrations over time caused a catastrophic failure in the polymer/plastic. Not happy and looking to other brands for a replacement.
I use this light on the rear side of my helmet. My concern is not being seen by a texting teenager coming from behind during the day. It's the brightest light that I have come across. I believe so strongly about the quality of this light and its lifesaving potential that I bought 3 of these, one for myself, my wife, and my grandson. You may ask, why do I put in on the rear of my helmet? Most people have a red light that is about as bright as a firefly with diarrhea. It gives the rider a false sense of security. It's too low and too dim to be effective. I don't ride at night so I don't need that illumination, I'm much more concerend about my safety
I have this guy mounted under my Wahoo Elemnt with a $10 part from Bontrager that has a GoPro-type mount on one side and the clippy-doodad to mount this light on the other side (I had to make several adjustments to get it to face forward). That keeps this off my handlebar and cleans up the cockpit. This is a great daytime running light and a charge keeps it on a flash pattern longer than any of the rides I've used it for so far.
Bought 6/2019 so just over 2 years. Love all about but lately my lights are dead after storage for a few weeks without charging. I’ve always kept them inside and charged. It seems like they are left on but not so; both front and rear are dead. I know they used to last for several hour long rides; not sure now, will check. Wondered if anyone else is seeing this issue.
This is my 4th Bontrager RT light. All are excellent. I plan to run this one on the flash settings all the time in order to preserve my larger, more powerful Ion Pro RT for when it's turning dark. It's a small price to pay to prevent having to ride home with the Pro RT on the low battery beam. The Ion 200 RT is very small and lightweight. I don't think I'd want to count on it as my only front light when I'm trying to see road hazards on unlit rural roads, but it works great to make sure I'm visible to cars when I have my Ion Pro RT solid beam pointed down on the road in front of me. I can even see the Ion 200 RT white light flashing on stop signs and other reflective surfaces on cloudy days. This particular model is perfect for mounting to a helmet, because it's so lightweight. The benefit of a 2nd front light on a helmet is you can turn your head and point the light beam right at traffic approaching from the side to help reduce the risk of being broadsided. I also wear high viz clothes every time I ride. Riding with daylight running lights combined with high viz clothes makes a real difference in reducing your risk of getting hit.
I was looking for a new light that needed to be bright and compact. The Bontrager Ion 200 fits both of those requirements very well. It's small is perfect, and it does not obstruct my mounted phone, like previous lights did. I was also very surprised at the brightness for such a small light. The light can both illuminate trails and roads before sunrise and at night, and make me visible to cars at a far distance. Overall, a very good purchase and I am happy with the battery life.
I use this light on my road bike because it is pretty small but plenty bright in flashing mode to make it more likely that cars and trucks will seem me coming. I haven't had to use this at night but I suspect 200 lumens will get me home safely should I need it. Charges quick and easy and mounts beneath my computer for a clean look due in part to its relatively small size. I had the Ion 100 before and I feel much better with the increased light and battery life.
This is a powerful little light! I like how little space it takes up on the handlebar, and it overdelivers on brightness relative to its size. It's also really easy to remove to charge it, or keep it safe when you're away from your bike.
Mounts securely, unlike other brands. Strobe setting nice and bright to warn approaching drivers in daytime. Good battery life. Highly recommend.
I bought this 2 years ago and the light will no longer work. I may have used it for 600 hours during the two years. I checked with trek/bontrager and the item is still under warranty but i have to go through a dealer to get them to submit a warranty claim. I requested Rei to do that. But i should not have to go through rei, i should be able to do this myself. The light started giving me problems after a year but i still could get it to charge and work. Now it will not charge and not turn on. Complete waste of money/ stay away from the product.
