Nice light, but touchy to adjust brightness
It's a great size, great brightness for a tent light, and I really like the bungee loop. My only complaint is that setting the brightness is a little touchy. You adjust brightness by holding the button for a few seconds. The light ramps up its brightness and you release it when it's as bright as you want. Easy, right? In principle, yeah. But in practice, it changes too fast to catch the brightness you want. So, it's best for if you want to fuss with it once then leave it at the same brightness all the time (which is fine with me). Might be a little annoying if you frequently change the brightness, though. Next version, they should double the time it takes to scan through the brightness options.
Would be great, but barely working dimming control
This has all the ingredients to be a great lantern. But the dimming control simply does not work as described in the directions, making it very difficult and frustrating to reduce brightness with several tries and accidentally turning on strobe mode. Specifically, to dim you are to to hold the power button, and it should fade up to max brightness, then fade back down. But instead, after reaching max brightness, holding the button usually results in the lamp turning off. Pressing again to turn it on often results in strobe mode. Because of this I'm returning it.
Perfect Lantern for My Needs
I bought mine years ago and use it everyday. Sturdy, water-resistant, wide range of brightness level, can hang it anywhere, even on my wrist. I store it in my purse. Sadly, as with all rechargable items, the internal battery is wearing out and no longer holds the charge it once did. I am going to buy another one. I don't want to throw the old one away, because every other part of it is great. Someone should refurbish this one. That's how good this lantern is. I don't want to dispose of it after its term of life.
Super versatile pocket light
The Cairn Mini is literally a pocketful of light that you can tether or hang just about anywhere. 150 lumens is perfect for a variety of tasks. I bought a few for my kids and tethered them to their bikes so they can do Fall night rides. I keep on tied onto my backpack for emergency situations and for hiking.
cute design, terrible user experience
I bought two of these, specifically because I thought they'd be a great way to have some emergency bedside table lights. The actual usability of this product is god awful. The button you must push multiple times in different sequences to get it to light up in different patterns is surprisingly hard to push. Like, it's a serious and obvious design flaw that I cannot comprehend how it ever made it out of R&D or testing. It really works terribly, even if the form factor and colors are perfect. It's a junk project and you should avoid it if you're on the fence. I'm sure it's great for some specific uses or users but I can't imagine what they'd be.
Great all around!
I purchased this at the REI return section. It was marked down to 3$ so I took a chance. I could not have been happier. Who ever returned this missed out or as the sales rep said probably didn't know how to use it which is probably true,I also purchased a gigapower stove and it works perfect as well. This light is perfect to wrap around my walking stick and it goes great in my hammock. MYy son is afraid of the dark so he uses it in his room at night and it still shows full charge after 8 plus hrs.. Would recommend at drop of a dime!
Small and bright
Rechargeable, very bright, little lantern for a reasonable price.
Powerful light, lacking refinement
I received this light as a gift, and was immediately surprised at how difficult it was to change light modes (to dim or make brighter). After discovering my light was in fact faulty, Lander’s fantastic customer service helped me get a replacement light fast, free and easy. To my surprise however, even the replacement light has the same issue upon arrival and is nearly impossible to dim/brighten. I am disappointed that, after reading reviews and discovering that this has happened to others with the same product, even Lander’s replacement for the issue would not have been tested properly before being sent out to me.
Bright
Really bright, power button could be a little bigger. It's light weight, great brightness adjustability and really really bright for a small camp lantern. Wish it had a better hanging system like a hook instead of the draw chord. Overall I would but it again.
Not worth $1
While this looks like a stylish and inexpensive way to light the way, the 1 button control is not consistent and you are left with a altogether useless piece of plastic that's sometimes too dim, sometimes too bright, and will unexpectedly begin blinking at you. Stay back!
