Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but not great I bought this to use replace a 2012 model storm that is cracking from lots of use and abuse. I really wanted to like this, especially since it's so much brighter than my current storm. Unfortunately I'll be returning it for a few reasons specific to me, but they might not affect everyone's decision. Pros: Extremely bright, regulated output, bright and dimable green or red night LEDs, easy access to brightest setting, built in battery "heater", long battery life, waterproof. Cons: The main beam has a noticable blueish tint, the lowest brightness setting on both does not dim enough and is too bright compared to my old storm, the head strap is less comfortable with the inward facing plastic piece (why? they could have fixed this so easily), the headlamp emits a low frequency electronic noise while on which you can only hear if it's quiet but definitely annoying so close to your ears.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from solid headlamp highly recommended After a month and half of research I bought this and the spot by black diamond. This light is very powerful and there is enough light features to tackle any situation. I will say it is fairly heavier then spot but if you change strap formation on the head you get used to it. I wore it first day for two hours sitting at desk and could feel it after the two hours but it wasn't miserable. I especially like the blue led feature. It glows things almost like black light. Very happy with purchase. I would give it 5 stars if it was lighter.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Overpriced with not outstanding performance I was hoping to replace a very trusted and efficient light that was stolen. I was disappointed that this unit was not as comfortable and practical as my old unit. It has to be used fairly snug otherwise it will bounce. Hard to focus the beam on your task. Others may like all the whistles it has.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Amazing light output. The dimmer makes it extremely versatile. And the colored lights are a nice bonus. But the light output on High is absolutely incredible for such a small light. Great for hiking at night.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy it now I bought this headlamp to replace an old energizer model. The old one worked good enough but once it quit working I decided to get something better. I am very pleased with this purchase. It has a lot of features for a reasonable price, especially if you catch it on sale. I like the dimmer option if you just hold the button down, and also the bright button on the right side which immediately displays full brightness. The red, green, and blue lights are cool too. I considered getting a petzl lamp with rechargeable batteries but you get a way longer lifespan with this black diamond model. It may be the right lamp for the typical gram counter, but for the average person I say go for it, you won't be disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great light, confusing UI I bought this for occasional camping. When I get it turned on, it is fantastic -- nice bright beam, good spread, great battery life, and has a nice "tap the side to dim" feature to avoid blinding folks approaching you on a trail. What I hate about it: I only use it infrequently, and so I never remember the magic combination of taps and presses to get it to: (a) turn on; and (b) change colors/brightness/flash/whatever. You either need to use it often enough to not forget the horrific "just one button!" UI, or carry the manual with you. It would be improved by simply writing on the back of it a flow chart showing how to turn it on and change modes (but I understand this would be harder to translate into various languages than paper -- perhaps a waterproof sticker?).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Headlamp This headlamp has all the features I need and then some. The one button mechanism is a bit confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is great. It also has the quick touch on the side to go from bright to dim. I have used this headlamp for 3 backpacking trips and it has performed above expectations each time. Night hiking is a breeze with the adjustable light levels and this lamp is super bright when needed. I would definitely recommend this lamp to others.

Does this model still have the power meter that tells you how much battery life is left?

Asked by: AlyS
Yes. It has a power meter which is on for the first 3 seconds after you turn the headlamp on.

Looking for an upgrade to my Spot headlamp. The Storm model claims to have improved peripheral performance, but it looks like there is only a single side-mounted low intensity LED, as opposed to the two balanced units on my Spot. Can anyone confirm?

Asked by: Pete
Also own a spot.  The peripheral performance is very much improved in the new Storm.
