Black Diamond  Stella-R Headlamp

I got this for my husband and he really likes it. He’s had several headlamps before but they all used regular batteries so he’s very happy that this one is rechargeable. It’s a little larger than others but still lightweight. It has adjustable brightness and can be very bright at 350 lumens but you can also use the ambient setting if you want something softer. There are different light settings and colors. The buttons were a little finicky at first but now they work well. He mainly uses it around the house when he’s working on things and sometimes when we do our night walks around the neighborhood. I do wish it has a tilt function and a stronger spot beam. But for everyday use, it really works well and he’s very happy with it.

This product is not for me. i tried it this morning in the kitchen, reflections in window with the two pulsing modes could possibly induce migraines for those sensitive, the reflected light gave me slight nausea almost instantly. I am on the look out for "Red light" modes, this unit has four reds and seems too diffuse compared to a single Red spot mode. I'll stick with other BD spot "Red" modes. I'll keep trying this, and will place a strip of opaque tape under the lens to shade the light from my eyebrow and nose. This unit may very well be fun for younger people in a party mode.

This headlamp is different than others in the best possible ways! The Stella-R feels like it was designed by someone who actually understands cozy campsite vibes instead of just maximum brightness. The firelight mode is honestly magical. Warm, soft, calming light instead of "LED interrogation beam to the face. It is mean to mimic candlelight or firelight and does a wonderful job of keeping that ambiance. The color vortex mode is also surprisingly fun, the colors are pretty and fun for the kids to use. I also love that they skipped the strobe light feature entirely. The large buttons are easy to use, it is rechargeable and lightweight. I originally bought one for my daughter, but once we saw it in use at home, I went back and bought two more for my son and myself. This is perfect for campground evenings, tent reading, summer night walks, preserving night vision, and people who hate harsh lighting. It creates beautiful ambient lighting to compliment the mood of your night.

I was super excited about this light, but unfortunately it doesn't tilt in anyway, and that made it somewhat irrelevant for me. I loved the USB-C (vs BD's other rechargeable lights), and the frosted front, but the lack of being able to tilt downward when I need to just ruined it, so I had to return it. Also wish it had more of a focused 'Spot' mode. One note is that it is incrementally larger than many other headlights, but still relatively small.
