New release latch is terrible
No, I do not recommend this product
The newly designed release latch and integrated “tool” are horrible. The batteries are also very tight to get positioned. The headlamp can open somewhat easily, until you put in the batteries. Everything is fit in so tightly, that the latch will not open. Returning

No, I do not recommend this product
Absolute garbage. It's baffling how Black Diamond ever thought this trash was acceptable to release. As others have stated, the flimsy plastic tab is often insufficient to open the battery compartment. In heat, the plastic becomes more ductile. In cold, it becomes brittle and might snap. Even in ideal circumstances, you have to fiddle with it for so long, applying so much pressure that you feel like it might break at any moment. If by some miracle you do get the battery compartment to open you'll discover that AAA batteries don't really fit into the compartment without manhandling them in there so much that you'll leave scratches on the batteries. Better not close it before you test it out either; I found they tend to be misaligned after all that rough handling and the light might not come on. If you already closed the latch, you get to start again from step 0. I owned the prior model of the Black Diamond Spot and it was a good headlamp. It served me well for many years. This new model feels like it was made by a totally different company. It takes just a few minutes of hands on time with the headlamp to realize these blatantly obvious issues so I'm genuinely baffled how they managed to release such a flawed product.

Impossible to open battery compartment
The newly designed integrated headband integrated battery compartment opener (pry tool) is horrible. It’s nearly impossible to open the light reliably. Additionally, the battery receptacle in the housing is finicky. I had to roll brand new batteries around until the position was just right for this light to operate. I have zero intent on trusting my life with this light. I’ll be returning ASAP.

Terrible latch release
The new latch on these headlamps is terrible. Once you put batteries in, and they fit really tight, the plastic lever release tab is useless. I had to use the end of some metal clippers to pry it open. Would not trust this backpacking, especially if I had batteries run out. Also, when I had 3 fresh batteries in, the power meter only read one light, instead of three. Returning
