Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great upgrade from my old forerunner I was a little nervous reading other reviews but I am thrilled with this watch. It is accurate compared to my chest strap HR and prior GPS watch and so far I have used it for outdoor running, walking and used it as a daily step counter ( prior forerunner didn't have this). I was surprised how lightweight it is. It is about the size of an Apple Watch and I'm glad I got the black band instead of white- it is actually nice looking even though I have a tiny wrist. You can customize the display for running etc pretty easily and the menus are fairly intuitive. Great purchase so far and I felt comfortable with REIs return policy it it has any problems going forward. Glad I didn't spring for the 235!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Much improved with software update Bought this in late 2016 and it was useless. Heartrate varied as much as 100 beats per minute in a 10 minute exercise. Inaccurate 90% of the time, varying where I was in the gym. Talked to REI expert 2/24/17, got a Garmin software update, and now it is accurate 90% or more of the time. Plus, there are more features, including indoor/outdoor cycling (had indoor/outdoor running only before). It's more complex than before, but not beyond comprehension. REI expert also recommended tightly strapping it on, unlike a FitBit user who said hers had to be loose. Now, I am very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great running watch This watch is great; it's easy to use, comfortable, and shows all of the stats that I want and need during and after my runs. I wear the watch 24/7 and like seeing my steps and calories burned throughout the day. The battery life is good, too. I turned off some of the tracking options on the watch and a charge lasts a week or more. I run four days a week and like to race from time to time and this watch is perfect for me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bug in software update Watch came with v 2.70, and the Garmin software update system wanted to update it to v 3.10. Tried immediate update and overnight update several times. Always got stuck. Then I found this at the Garmin 3.10 web site -- "If attempts to upload software fail, you may need to return the device to Garmin® for service." I did not want to go through that hassle so I returned watch to REI. Other than software update problem it's a great watch, I would be wearing it right now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Maybe $100 value I bought this two weeks ago and returned it a week later. It chipped on the corner. I had used and loved and killed three Garmin VivoActive HR watches, tried this because I thought it was similar. But the GPS was very slow to start, flights were not tracked, and the watch face is not customizable (big bummer there). Not what I was looking for and not durable enough for my simple running needs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Durability and comfort so-so, all else awesome I have been wearing this watch 24/7 for 6 weeks. I decided to pay a little more at REI in case I needed to utilize their return policy; I am indeed going to swap it out for a 230 with a heartrate strap, but REI unfortunately does not carry that model Forerunner. :( The heartrate monitor (which, to be fair, most people do not seem to have a comfort issue with) leaves my wrist feeling pretty tender beneath the small connection point where the monitor drops lower than the watch back onto the wrist. Keeping it tight enough to be accurate is juuuust uncomfortable enough to be distracting, and I've realized I'm willing to deal with the inconvenience of strapping on a monitor during workouts instead of feeling that all day long. My other issue with this watch is its cosmetic durability; for a device designed to be worn 24/7, it isn't very hearty in terms of taking abuse and resisting wear. The plastic frame around the face has chipped, and the face itself scratched at some point. My activity hasn't been intense or in rough environments. I'm hoping the 230 is better in this regard, but I'm going to be more delicate with it out of the gate. Lastly, I wish the 35 had a mode to monitor "other" type workouts like strength training, so I'm looking forward to the 230 for that reason, as well. With all of this said, this thing has great basic features, worked flawlessly as a constant fitness monitor, has excellent battery life, and served as a solid introduction to fitness watches for me. The vibrating alarms have changed my life -- waking up is far less abrupt for my brain and body, and my alarm does not wake my partner anymore. The strap is like butter (though I'm looking forward to not needing to wear it quite so tight to get HR information). The fact that Garmin waterproofs all their watches will make me a lifelong customer -- it blows my my mind that FitBit and the rest of them aren't waterproofing as a matter of course.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for tracking my walks & rides Thanks to the salesperson at REI, I was able to purchase the perfect garmin for my needs. Have used it on my walks and will be using it Saturday on a 30 mile bike ride. Syncs with my iPhone and fitness app . No problems so far. Great for seeing who is calling and reading texts. Still learning all the other things it can do.

I want to wear it 24/7 but wondering about battery life. Does it only last about 13 hours? If so, since you have to charge it everyday, how long does it take? Can you plug it into any USB charger or does it need the computer as the directed in the manual?

Asked by: SharonCasey
In GPS mode, this watch has an estimated battery life of 13 hours. Without the GPS function turned on, the estimated battery life is up to 9 days.

Does this watch also track HIIT (strength, weight lifting, etc.)? I run, hike, cycle and snowboard in addition to HIIT. I want to make sure this can track all my activities. Also, for cycling, does this require any additional accessories?

Asked by: calirunner13
The Forerunner 35 does track interval training, running, hiking and cycling. In order to get the full spectrum of cycling data you would need to add the Garmin Speed and Cadence Sensor:
