best watch I've ever owned
I've used and abused this watch on a deployment for a year, and it's still in beautiful condition. Unscratchable! The GPS is accurate and the downloadable apps and widgets make for a user-friendly, customizable experience. A word of caution, many of the widgets you might download need connection with your phone (weather apps in particular download data via your phone) so you may not be able to access that data when your phone doesn't have reception. Otherwise, having data at my fingertips, and the ability to quickly check my grid (the GPS is FAST FAST FAST!) has been invaluable. The fitness data is on point as well. I currently pair it with a Garmin chest strap during PT, and I get accurate readings for my HR. With mixed activity, the battery charge lasts a little over a week (10-ish days). Charging is super fast. If you're on the fence, take the plunge with this watch. You will not regret it.
No Regrets!
I purchased my Garmin Tactix Bravo GPS watch a couple of months ago and I am very pleased with it. Battery life is amazing and the functionality is great as well. I mainly use the watch for the step counting, swimming distance/time, GPS, and the watch face for telling time. I can get a week maybe a little more out of the battery on the regular which is great. The watch band is a really cool feature I enjoy because its really comfortable, comfortable and easy to interchange the different bands. I recently went out of the country on vacation, I wore it all the time hiking and swimming with and it took a beating and still functioned flawlessly. Its ruggedness shined through with no scratches or scrapes on the watch face. I purchased the leather band sold with the Fenix 3 and currently use it with my Tactix Bravo for formal outings and it looks amazing dressed up with the leather band. Also changing the watch face to dressier backgrounds is a cool feature to dress the watch up. This watch is a chameleon of sorts, suiting my casual activities without being to bold but at the same time being able to pull off a formal/dress look at the same time. Best watch Iv owned, I would recommend this for anyone looking for a great all in one watch! I have no regrets buying this awesome Garmin watch.
Good watch, but beware the battery & warranty
I've owned the watch for just under 18 months, and the battery life went from great to terrible very quickly. Garmin confirms the battery is toast, but, citing their abysmal 1-year warranty, tell me I'm screwed. The options from Garmin are to pay $100 + tax & shipping for a *refurbished* watch that has no warranty of its own, or to "trade in" for the new Tactix Charlie and receive a 20% credit for the value of the Tactix Bravo. This is terrible customer service. A $650 device should last well past a year, and the company should stand behind their product. To be given the choice to fork over ~$120 / year just to keep a $650 device in working order is an insult to customers. To have them suggest paying another $650 for the Tactix Charlie after a year, with no guarantee the same problem won't happen, is ludicrous. The watch is good. If you're ok with having to throw it out after 12 months, get it. For that period of time, you'll have a great watch. If you expect it to last longer than that, don't even think of getting it until Garmin decides to stand behind their product.
Love my new tactix bravo!!!
I love my tactix bravo, and so far a been using it for about week and I'm auto technician field and i was looking for a watch that would stand scratches and stuff from been working on vehicles. i had the f3 sapphire which has the grey bezel and that one it scratch way more then the tactix. I'm glad i made the right decision on returning the f3 sapphire and thanks to rei return policy which is the BEST out there i was able to change it to my new tactix bravo. would i recommend it? YES i would recommend and if you main concern is about scratches then look no further than the TACTIX BRAVO... and by the way the tactix bravo comes with the same software as the fenix 3 and the new fenix 3 hr. other thing i want it to mention was that if you never had a strap before on a watch you might need to replace it with something better than the strap that the watch comes with because in my first week i had blisters around my wrist due to strap that irritate my skin so if that would be a concern with you then have to replace the strap band like I did.
Limited Ability to Find Replacement Bands
I liked this watch until the wristband wore out and I needed to replace it not too long after I purchased it. REI didn’t sell the replacement bad and when I tried to purchase it directly from Garmin, they informed me they discontinued the band. They pointed me to some other band that they said were compatible but even those were limited. This watch wasn’t inexpensive and thought I’d have it for may years. Pocket watches went out at the turn of the century, but it appears that what I’ll have. Not happy with this purchase.
Operator Approved.
This watch is awesome. If you have a infantry job then this watch is 100% a watch you need to have. I have used it from R&S to Haho jumps and it has always been very accurate and has not failed me yet, I beat the heck out of it.. I have had three garmin 401s fail on me due to rain or just dieing from use .I am planning on upgrading to the Charlie. I will never use another watch.
