Waterproof vs. Water-resistant
- Waterproof: Keeps out hard rain while also being breathable; great for extended outdoor adventures
- Water-resistant: Can handle light to moderate rain but not fully waterproof
Rain suits
- Ideal for toddlers or younger kids, these one-piece or two-piece suits provide more complete coverage
Features to consider
- Insulated: Some jackets include lightweight fleece lining for added warmth. If you buy an unlined jacket, make sure it's roomy enough to fit warm layers underneath
- Reflective accents: Reflective logos, piping or trim offer provide added visibility
- Length: Most rain jackets are waist-length but some cover the hips
- Closures on cuffs, waists, hems and hoods: Elastic closures help seal in warmth; adjustable closures provide an even better seal
