Rated 5 out of 5 by from best dinner Just got back from 7 day backpack in the Escalante and this was by far the best dinner of the six I took. The flavors were wonderful together, and I think the small packet of olive oil included really made it taste fresh and almost home made. My husband always eats half of my dinner plus his own and he also thought this was the best of all the dinners we brought.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from delightful This was probably our favorite meal from BP. Good balance of coconut to rice with a surprising hint of banana that brings the whole thing together. Complex combination of ingredients that work well together.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from An Average Meal Positives: Easy and quick to make, lots of protein and fiber, filling Negatives: Flavor was a bit bland (a hot sauce packet would have gone a long way), there was a some mild banana, but mostly it felt like eating a whole lot of beans and rice, so some veggies or something else would have been nice to break it up and add some interest to the meal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My backpack favorite The beans and rice re-hydrate quickly for a hungry meal with a flavor kick of coconut. I split it into 2 separate Quartz size freezer bags for 2 meals, and II use the clean Backpackers Pantry bag as a 'warming oven".

Rated 3 out of 5 by from want to give it four stars, but.... My wife and I split this one on a recent three-day trip. We both quite liked it, with but a few reservations. The first was that it claims to be "Coconut," but we could neither of us easily identify coconut as a flavoring - banana, yes, but not coconut. It was very good, a very pleasant blending of subtle flavors. I would give it four stars - I really want to - but it was just a little bland by the end of a single serving. I think it would have fared better if we'd paired it with something a bit racier, and this had served as a cooling side dish.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One of my faves, but.. ..definitely want to add a few things to spice it up. #1: I have been hiking with FD bananas, and I recommend adding extra to this. #2: Also, hot sauce helps a lot. Or try FD jalapenos. #3: I may try roasted coconut next time too

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good side dish This has lots of calories in comparison to other meals, and is nice and satisfying. I did find it a bit bland, but it would make a good side dish, or plan on adding some hot sauce when you make it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked well with fish Purchased this specifically to serve alongside trout if caught. Ended up placing pan-fried trout fillets (lemon pepper and smoked paprika seasoned) into pouch as the pouch cooked/rehydrated due to timing issues of the meal. The result was excellent as all four participants noted. Cooked meal at 9,000+ feet with extra cook time as suggested, and some insulation around the packet to make the rehydration more effective. The mixture of the seasoned trout and this dish worked well together. Also enjoyed the rice/bean remnants separately when the trout was gone. My only reason for ranking this a 4 rather than 5 is that I used it to as an augment to fish rather than having it as stand-alone. Therefore, I don't know how much the trout contributed to the flavor of the whole packet. Did not have issues with unrehydrated beans or rice. If one is having these problems the issue is likely with the method of keeping the packet insulated/warm while cooking, particularly at high altitude where the boiling water temp is lower and the cook time longer.
