Rated 2 out of 5 by from High Sodium Content I purchased this item based on the excellent reviews. Backpacker's Pantry certainly seems to offer more interesting choices of flavors than any other brand; however, the big problem I see repeated over and over with their meals is the very high sodium content. Several flavors I have tried all had salty flavor, and in some cases double your daily sodium allowance in a single serving. If they change the recipe I may give them a second look. I would not normally review a food item because its so much about personal taste, but in this case its very clear. Dont take my word for it, please read the labels and make your own decisions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great camp meal, don't forget the measuring cups! As the title says, we enjoyed this one a lot (I daresay better than my staple of Louisiana red beans and rice.) High sodium content, yes, but if you're backpacking, you need it, and we didn't think it tasted salty. Portions wise, if you have other things you want to munch on that night like a summer sausage, this will definitely feed two. We bought one apiece and couldn't finish the amount of food. Cooking times were appropriate, and don't forget touse measuring cups, as this. Package isn't pre labeled inside. Will buy again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Its gooooood! Simply put it's in the top of the freeze dried taste spectrum! Plus I cannot imagine you' could eat this good, get this full, and do so as easy as just adding boiling water with much of anything else but have not tired them all. No cons just a wish that it was available in single servings and that I would have used maybe about a ounce less water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Favorite Love this meal. I usually car camp so my husband and I split most of these meals, but this one is another one of my favorites. Very Tasty

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An old dog learns a new trick My hiking partners are notoriously picky about backcountry food, and for years we have carried ingredients and extra fuel to cook for ourselves. This product has probably put an end to that time killing exercise, at least in some measure. I couldn't believe how well it turned out, and the partners raved.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a Regular Shepherd's Pie Strangely sweet, like chutney-level sweet -- not to my taste but beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder. As others mention and the label says, it's a stew, so don't expect it to be like a regular shepherd's pie. Big plusses for the including corn and peas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great meal I was leary about freeze dried meals as my past experiences many years ago was not good. This was delicious! I ate every last bit and still wanted more. My only concern was the amount of sodium in it but I could get over that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flippin Good Hands down the best freeze dried meal. Definitely save this one for the end of the day as it sits very heavy in your stomach. Great taste, almost as if it were homemade. I take this one every time I go.
