Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cute but unreliable I've owned four of these in the last ten years. I always bought them to go traveling and camping because when they do work they are cute and I love the candle for camping or rooms with no bedside lamp. Sadly I lost one and the other three broke. The last one I only just bought and took on one trip and it worked for three nights and then ceased working. I think the batteries may have leaked even though they were brand new - Anyway, I couldn't get them out. This was the exact same problem I had with the mini maglite's predecessor. Maybe I am unlucky, but I don't feel these torches are reliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grandfather of headlamps for two hands free chores I've been using this flashlight for 35 years before headlamps became available. As a locksmith and repairman and while putting up Christmas lights I would place the body between my cheek and gums and simply illuminate where I was looking. The light also excells within a tent or vehicle and I have used mine to find my tree stand in the early morning dark. The body is tough aircraft aluminum and a spare bulb sits in the tail cap. Twisting the head left or right moves from tight beam to flood. This tough weatherproof hoss was here long before "tactical" flashlights and is still highly regarded. New colors sweeten the deal.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Try something different I'd read many good things about this light and think it is a very attractive design. Over the years, I've had three of these little maglites and when they work, they work well. But all three of mine have failed for various reasons. I've taken them apart, replaced the bulbs, batteries, exchanged parts, etc. to no avail. After my first experience, I should have learned my lesson but I bought this light again and again only to be dissapointed twice more. I now need another light and will look elswhere this time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard To Beat! OK, here's the deal. Look at what this light will cost you then compare to an LED light. Compare the light output as well; they are the same. This thing is almost indestructible, too. No, I would not rely on this as my only light, but for something to keep handy, it gets top marks. The only draw back I find is the filament may break. That is the one thing I can say in favor of LED lights. After a REALLY LONG time, I'm finally replacing my old one, but only because I lost it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average Non-LED Flashlight I bought this light at the last minute when my Surefire died. This one performed, well, average. The beam is not the most powerful, and it can take a while to find what focus you want the beam at. Invest in a good Fenix or Surefire light instead, LED's are much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Favorite Flashlight This is one of my favorite flashlights. It is small enough to fit into a drawer or to use on a small desk. I am using it in my home office for supplementary light. I had to lubricate the threads on the tail and the head pieces but otherwise it is a very good flashlight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great in my backpack! Picked up one of these at REI probably a year ago and put it in my backpack as one of the ten essentials. Hadn't used it at all until this past weekend. Batteries were still fresh, light was as bright as new. I have always liked MagLite products, as they are well made and have always been trouble free for me. Tremendous value for the price.

The batteries can be replaced by unscrewing the end cap on the opposite end from the bulb.
