Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun for car camping meals We got this as a present from a neighbor and took it camping over new years. He told us he first went to a box store to get one, but that one was not cast iron and had plastic handles. This one looks a lot better constructed. The pie iron is well made, cooks great and I am sure we will make many more delicious breakfasts and dinners in years to come. We did not get any recipes with it, but with some imagination, the possibilities are endless. It may not be the right size for bread, but we have not been buying sliced bread much lately anyway. It is great for the biscuits and other dough out of a tube and as other reviewers mentioned can be used to make muffins and corn bread. I am looking forward to making pizza on our next trip.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good camp iron This is a good pie iron, though we were surprised at how small it is. Our bread didn't fit well at all, and we don't get the huge loaves. But the cast iron is essential for cooking. We have another pie iron that isn't cast iron but it has a much larger space for bread, so it doesn't cook as well but we waste less bread.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product - great price Works for a lot more that "pies" - my first use was to make cornbread and second use was blueberry muffins. Great product for the car camper. Highly recommend over the cheaply made box store items. The cast iron makes it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pie iron Great pie iron, very durable, and the two sides un-hook for ease of cleaning, or so you can use it as two separate little frying pans. A little hard to clean, but that's expected with cast iron.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is awesome! This thing is awesome for camping! It's very easy to make your own pizza pockets with Pillsbury rollout pizza dough, pizza sauce and your favorite toppings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Camp Fire Pizza Essential! My husband and I love to make campfire pizzas using the camping iron. (Two pieces of buttered bread, pizza sauce, and cheese. Remember to flip frequenlty!) It is our favorite car-camping dinner! This product is the essentail tool for delicous camp-frie treats!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun! We just bought two a month ago, so we've only used them on one camping trip, but they were fun. We made cornbread, biscuits and tuna melts, and they tasted great. Do try to keep them level and rotate them often. We found it worked better to keep them level even if it meant placing them in the flame instead of the coals. Round flat bread fits well, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cooking Iron Best one I found for the cost! Great for pizza mountain pies. Too awkward for backpacking.

I am camping and also competing in a pie contest, will this be able to cook pies? How long per pie?

Asked by: milkthistle
You can cook pies with the cooking iron. You may want to consult a cooking iron cookbook for recommended cook times as we do not have that information available.
