Very well made pan

Very nice pan. Heavy carbon steel and the handle locks well. Fits perfect in my small camp cook box. The 8” is measured across the top, the cooking area is about 6 3/4”. Good for one or two people. As soon as they come out with a 10” I will buy that as well!

Everything sticks, I've quit using it.

I used to have a carbon steel wok so I expected to love this pan. Everything sticks to it. Oil, no oil it doesn't matter , all food sticks tightly to the pan. It does clean up with a lot of scrubbing but I've since bought a different pan.

Waiting for the 10" version

I cook a lot of one person meals while out truck camping and dislike most camping/hiking cookware skillets I've tried. The removable handle makes storage more convenient, which is what drew my original attention. The detachable handle design works well even if the handle lock should break. After a couple rounds of seasoning the skillet is now nearly non-stick. I'll be buying the 10" version once it is in stock.

Great pan but heats up faster than cast iron

This is a great cast iron pan and I love that the handle can be removed. We use it in our RV so removing the handle is great for limited storage spaces. The pan heats up MUCH faster than a regular cast iron so beware! I've had some food burn because the pan got hot pretty quick, unlike a regular cast iron. I also noticed 'scratches' similar to some other reviews. Given this is cast iron, not sure what the 'scratches' are from. The patina also wore off pretty quick. But all in all, a solid thinner carbon steel pan that's great for RVing, Van-living or car camper.

One pan to rule them all

I've been using black carbon steel on the home stovetop for the last couple years in place of my heavy cast iron. Treated properly, black carbon steel is even easier to cook with and more durable than cast iron. This pan is no exception. At 8 inches, it's the right size for 1-person car camping, and the detachable handle is why I have it instead of a BK or Morten and Storck – from which this Oxo is otherwise no different. Stands up to high heat, fries eggs in olive oil with crispy edges and easy release, and performs proper Maillard browning on pork carnitas. Maple breakfast sausage requires patience to let it carmelize and a little scraping over heat afterward, as expected. On a small burner, heat slowly over low heat to avoid hot spots in the center but a cold rim – same as you would with cast iron. Also, as with seasoned cast iron, you need a little fat to cook with; if you expect PFAS-induced effortless non-stick, this is not the pan for you. But if you are willing to let the food cook before trying to release it, this pan will do what you ask of it, and then some. Rubbing the pan with a dash of oil after cooking (after removing any stuck bits with a little salt or chainmail) will keep it working well for you. The handle attaches solidly enough to give me confidence handling the pan, with little to no wobble; in fact, removing the handle while cooking makes the pan even more stable on a smaller stove. The metal clip is well-machined and looks difficult to break, and the spring is completely enclosed, with little to no chance of popping out. Fits neatly in a gallon-size zipper bag, and nests well with Primus stainless steel deep-rim plates. Very happy.

Good all around pan

Bought this pan on a whim and glad I did. Pan is pre-seasoned but I also added more when purchased. Good nonstick carbon steel and holds up to the heat. Love the removable handle.

These pans are the best from stove, grill, oven, and open flame

I wanted something i could use in my main home, camper, and has removable handles to use on my Big Green Egg and in our countertop air fryer oven. These pans knocked it out of the park. the cooking of cast iron with the weight of steel. I have used several other removable handle pans from granite to steel and non stick and these are by fare teh best as long as you dont cook acidic things like tomato and lemon (i keep a separate set of stainless for that. Wipe them down with a coat of oil at teh end of each cook and the non-stick is top tier

Good Pan

Really like the detachable handle, makes it easier to store, other than that it's just your basic pan. Need to maintain seasoning to keep non-stickesque

Don't Waste Your Money

Pan pretty much immediately started to rust. Tried everything, and finally just threw it away. Piece of junk, and I have other carbon steel and cast iron pans that i have never had problems with. Very disappointed.
