Lovely nitride-coated carbon steel pan that works great both indoors and outdoors. I find myself using this pan at home fairly often. The nitride coating is non-toxic, durable, and provides excellent corrosion protection and somewhat non-stick properties, even without seasoning. With proper care, this pan should last you forever. I like the handle is easily removable for both cleaning and use. Helps to prevent the handle for getting too hot. As a carbon steel pan, I wouldn’t take this backpacking due to its weight and size, but you won’t catch me without this at a car camp site.
I'm trying to reduce plastic in my cooking gear as much as practical, especially where heat is involved, so no more non-stick aluminum! I've been a huge fan of cast iron at home, but that's just too heavy & bulky for car camping, and these are a perfect alternative. These don't require to be seasoned (don't even try! It won't work!); just use oil or butter and a stainless steel spatula, and you'll have easy release of nearly anything. I prefer to remove the handle instead of folding it in, that way I can nest things inside, but I suppose it's nice to have both options. I wish it folded in a way that supported nesting, but that's my only complaint! FYI, I would prefer 2 of these to 1 of these plus 1 of the 8-inch pans.
High quality! It seasoned up nicely after a few uses. It fits perfectly with my jet boil genesis base camp.
I bought two of these, one small and one large. Used the larger pan on two recent car camping trips and it worked great. I followed instructions for seasoning it, had no problems with anything sticking. It's lighter than my cast iron skillet and packs smaller with the folding handle. Cleanup is easy as well.
I'm obsessed with this pan, I've been using it in my kitchen over my 12" hexclad when I can. GSI put this out in a 12" with a cover please! Requires really low heat and nothing sticks to it after the seasoning stage.
Haven't taken it camping yet but very heavy, solid with a good capacity and a good shape.
