I love lodge, but the "seasoning" they use is rough and prone to sticking. Take a sander with 60grit sandpaper to remove the seasoning on the bottom and sides. Then heat up the skillet and put about a tablespoon of olive oil or flax seed oil in the skillet and wipe around with a lint free cloth. Put the skillet in the oven at 300 for 40 min, turn the oven off and let the skillet cool down with the oven. Repeat 3 times and you will have a perfectly seasoned skillet. Treat your cast iron right and it will do the same for you.
This is the second-most-used peice of any of my cast-iron gear...great product. Google Sheryl Canter's "Chemistry of Cast Iron Seasoning: A Science-Based How-To" for the VERY BEST way to re-season and/or thicken the seasoning on cast iron.
Great frying pan, not suitable for minimalist campers - it 's weighs too much
I love cooking with cast iron, but Lodge stinks: It is too heavy –ridiculously heavy-, poorly balanced, and the rough finish is difficult to clean and promotes burning. The worst is that they are the only cast iron on the market. After checking every store and every online source, all I can find is Lodge. I now go to antique stores where I find lovely, light, sturdy, usable cast iron pans for reasonable prices. Why, oh why does REI carry Lodge? In what outdoor activity does anyone want to haul this kind of unnecessary weight?
Unbreakable and the only pan that anyone would ever need. Anything cast iron is perfect and this is no exception.
These cost about half as much at [...]. They are great in the home, too heavy for anything but car camping though.
Handle is a little small, but it makes it easy to pack so id say those cancel each other out. Highly recommended.
I haven't used an iron skillet for years.. Forgot how muchIi enjoy the food from it!!!
Great quality and so much fun to use. I’ve missed using cast iron while travelling.
