This is the only camp skillet that I would trust for real cooking! It is thicker in the center and cooks evenly regardless of the burner being used. Food does not stick and this is the first skillet that hasn't burned my food. Worth every penny! Have used it with the JetBoil MiniMo and various other burners for cooking steaks, burgers, stir-fry, etc. Have not tested with my alcohol stoves yet as I prefer adjustable burners for low heat cooking, which is best for eggs! The included spatula is great for flipping food. However, I would also suggest buying the GSI "Essential Spoon-Long" as it is silicone-tipped and is perfect for stirring meals that you plan to simmer. It also easily scrapes food off the skillet without scratching or melting. You can even leave it in the skillet while cooking as it can handle the high heat. Avoid metal cooking utensils as you could possibly scratch the ceramic. Also avoid cheap plastic utensils as they could melt.
What a fantastic piece of kit! I got this specifically for cooking trout out of alpine lakes. I didn’t have high hopes for my first attempt given previous experiences with backpacking gear, but I honestly don’t think I could have produced a better result cooking on my stove at home.
I used it for the first time while in Zion and it delivered!! Cooked about 10 eggs and bacon (at once) to make breakfast burritos and it worked like a charm! I can't wait to try it out again on my next camping adventure. Having the Mini Mo cook system paired with the Jetboil Skillet really added a culinary experience to car camping/backpacking. I highly recommend this product.
My husband and I love this pan so much that I just bought another one. It is truly nonstick so much so that I now even use it at home to make traditional French style omelets. Anyone who has seen Jacque Pepin's YouTube videos on how to make a traditional French style omelet knows that you need a good nonstick pan to get the ideal result. This pan delivers. I made the omelet at camp and at home using this pan. It turned out perfect. I do still spray it down with cooking spray just in case, especially with the omelet because REALLY want to make sure it doesn't stick, but I am sure it would still be nonstick without it. Purchasing another one to expand on even more camp recipes.
We used this pan about 3 times with the spatula it came with. The box/packaging appeared to have made a sight mark on the inside of the pan. We used the pan anyway and it didn’t seem to affect the nonstick properties. The spatula was used to flip pancakes and grilled cheese sandwiches. The spatula had one edge slightly melt. I would recommend buying and using a separate silicone spatula with this pan and keeping the one it came with as a backup.
Purchased to take backpacking to summit Mount Langley. The pan was the perfect size/weight to fit in my pack since the handle folded onto the pan itself and the small spatula that came with the pan could be attached to the handle; a bag was also included. Used the pan at camp to make eggs and fried rice with no issues. No eggs stuck to the pan and the fried rice turned out perfectly. Clean up was a breeze with it being nonstick. I simply rinsed it with water and wiped it down. The pan is on the smaller size, so perfect for one person. If you're planning to make a lot of food, be prepared to make more than one batch at a time.
Picked up this pan in prep for trip out to the Olympic Peninsula so I could mix up my cooking options. It fit well in my backpack and kept my pack light enough to still check on the flight out. When using with my MSR pocket rocket 2 it had decent stability and evening heating. Non-stick surface made cleaning a breeze. Only downside was the turn did not hold up well to heat and started melting on the edges. Highly recommend but bring a more robust silicone turner with instead of the included one.
I love this pan! The handle easily folds, and the spatula not only fits into the handle, it’s the perfect shape to scrape the edges of the pan. And it comes with a convenient bag to store it in/keep it clean. It also cleans very easily!
This skillet is light, the coating is sturdy and the tool included is sufficiently robust for expected use. I take it backpacking in combo with a MSR Dragonfly and so far I've used to it make pancakes, quesadillas, fried rice, and Spam :D . I have yet to scratch the coating but I am very careful with the flame level of my stove so I don't burn food on the skillet. When I am done cooking I wipe it clean with a cloth and put it back in its sack. And I don't know how anyone could melt the spatula unless they left it sitting in the skillet while they were cooking.
Love this pan. It increases the functionality of the Jet Boil burner. The pan is balanced and stable and does not slide around due to the built-in ridges on the bottom of it. Nice even heat.
