Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for camping I own each of the different sizes and have used them for years to store my camping stove, dishes, lanterns, propane tanks, tents, knives, hatchets, first aid kit, food, clothes...eveything goes in. When I'm ready to go, a quick inventory and into the bed of the pickup they go. Instead of loading all the individual items separately, I simply load 5 of these and I'm off. Don't have to worry about the lids flying off driving down the highway. When I get there I can leave them out in the rain...and they're dirt, bug and racoon proof too. And they double as seating. Couldn't recommend them more highly for storing and transporting your camping gear.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Missing features I'm a mechanical engineer who enjoys camping and off road driving. I bought three of the 8 gallon containers for storing equipment and tools. Here are the problems I found: 1) they don't stack and lock together at all. The hump in the lid is to high and there are no pockets or indentations for the feet to lock into. 2) The sides need to be vertical. The sloping and step in sides waste a lot of space. 3) there should be an 8 inch tall action packer with the same footprint as the 8 gallon action packer 4) Check out Swag Off Road to see the aluminum frame they came up with to make the Action Packer stackable

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 16 Years Later... When I was about 12 years old, my Boyscout group took a camping trip into the mountains of Georgia and we were all required to purchase one of these containers. I am now 28 years old and the same container still gets used, every month or so, when I go camping. She is tough, good looking, and when I am not camping - She sits in the garage ready to deploy with all of my gear. There is something to be said about the impeccable design quality, rigidity and usefulness of this packer. When I read the review about the armed forces using these overseas - I knew that I wasn't wrong. I hope this product is around for my son/daughter and their scouting life and if not - they can just borrow mine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Product Before 9/11 I used to use the 35 gal. storage containers to travel and these lasted forever. But when the size of checked luggage changed I had to purchase these 24 gal. storage boxes. I probably purchased 8 and all of them are useless the problem is the quality of the bottom side of is simple not sturdy and poor quality plastic nothing like the 35 gal where the bottom side can stand to takes a slight bang and a once perfect bottom bents in . I wrote rubbermaid trying to get them to fix the problem several years ago and nothing happened I even suggested making a 24 gal version of their 35 gal storage container and again no answer..dont get me wrong their products are excellent but not this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Sturdy - Heavy Duty I am a big guy, 350 lbs. This is the only storage container I can stand upon and jump up and down without it collapsing. I have used them for everything. You can even use this bad boy as a cooler--it holds two cases beer and enough ice to keep it cold. The top is insulated so that even with it full of beer, you can still sit on it or use it as a staging point for other activities. The best thing of all is that you do not have to worry about it breaking because you have used it too roughly. Way to go Rubbermaid!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High Quality Durable Product This is definitely one of the best storage/transportation solutions on the market. Have owned several models for years for hunting, fishing, camping etc and still going strong. Improvements could include a lid that is more user friendly as a table top and a gasket to help keep water out in case of water immersion. Otherwise have never had rain or splashed water get in to these things. Would also be nice to have a smaller version of the 35 Gal model. A must have for attaching to trailers/ATV's to haul accessories, storing and transporting boating accessories, truck accessories etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Tote! We are a Canadian missionary agency, Africa Community Technical Service (ACTS) and we send teams over to Africa each year and the 90.8 L ActionPacker has worked for us. We must have purchased way over 100 by now. We fly by British Airways and they are exactly the right BA baggage dimensions and survive the ground crew beating in Canada, London UK, and Entebbe Uganda, many have made a number of trips in both directions and survived. They are lockable and we ship sensative survey equipment and water quality checking equipment. If you have stuff you want to get there in one piece this your box! The price is getting a bit high though, since we starting buying them it has almost doubled now! But we have not found anything comparable both in durability and dimensionally.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Tote I was deployed overseas with the US Army on Operation Iraqi Freedom, We filled these totes with as much as could be put in them and walked on them, stacked them, slept on them, and through all the abuse they held up fine. I do not know of any in our unit that became unservicable. Excellent Product.

I know these are not considered "bear safe" but I was curious if there is any durability testing done? The idea was to use them for dry goods food storage, but didnt know if there were others out there with experience in using them for such a purpose.

Asked by: Hayley222
We do not have any results from methodical testing, but the Action Packer is designed for years of use in rugged conditions, like loading gear in and out of vehicles. We have customer reports of use for 15 or 20 years, with very little signs of wear.
