The Gregory Alpaca Gear Box is a fantastic product. It advertises itself as waterproof, dustproof, durable and easy to use. On all of those accounts it passes the test, with the caveat that I have had the box for only a few weeks, durability cannot fully be tested. I took the box on a recent camping trip through Moab and Canyonlands. The main thing you immediately notice about the box is its Clearview Lid. I only had one box, so it was easy to remember what was in it but being able to see through the lid is still quite handy to know what is in it without opening it up. On longer trips with multiple storage bins this is much more efficient than in the past when I simply used a sharpie on the lid or side of a box. The sharpie works until you want to use the box for something else or you get lazy and pack kitchen stuff in the blankets box, which you can only discover by opening every single storage bin in the bed of your truck. Ask me how I know this. The Clearview Lid makes it real easy to know what is in the Gear Box. The other thing you notice about the Gear Box is that it has a shallow hit. This can be a disadvantage if you want to put something tall and wide in the Box but there is not usually much to take with such an awkward shape that requires storage in a bin. The shallow height has two advantages. It is easy to see what is in the box since it is hard to get buried at the bottom. This is great for food stuffs which is what I used the box for the most during my camping trip. It also makes storage in the back of a truck or car much more flexible in where you can fit the box. On longer trips with lots of gear this is a huge advantage if you are like me and regularly play tetris with all your gear in the truck bed. Gregory advertises it as stackable with multiple boxes. I only had one box so cannot speak to how well they maintain their position on top of each other when driving around corners and hitting bumps off road. I spend a fair amount of time winter and desert camping. The back of my truck does not fully seal around the tailgate. On long winter drives slush and moisture regularly soak everything that’s stored near the tailgate. On long dirt road desert drives, dust regularly covers everything in the rear third of the truck bed. So the easiest way to test the Box’s claims that it is dust and water proof was to shove it directly in the back of my truck. This was an especially useful test as a lot of the water and dust is directed upwards at the box, so the seals would be put to the test. The verdict? The only specks of dirt that got in the box was from stuff I put inside it. Not a single drop of moisture could be detected. From my experience the box easily lived up to its claims of dust and water proofing. The other cool feature about the box that I had not seen before is the lid. Simply put the lid can be completely removed, or flipped up on a hinge in either direction. This is a nice little feature that means the box can be opened in any way you choose from any direction. The handles easily clip shut and open with minimal force from your hand and they never came undone. Durability is hard to measure after having the box for such a short time, but the handles seemed to be sturdily built. Only time will tell however. As for the box itself, I never exactly took a hammer to it, but my suspicion is that if you did it would take a significant bit of force to break the sturdy plastic it is made out of. Gregory promises a lifetime warranty on the box and I would suspect that it is not used very often given the construction of the box.

Amazing product but price is 2x what it should be

Product get's 5 stars, price get's 0. Great product, I have used same type of totes for years for family camping trips and they keep everything organized and dry in the bed of my truck. I didn't realize how much I would love the clear tops but it makes it easy to find what you need. The problem I have is that you can get the same exact features and quality of tote for half the price at Home Depot. While they are a different color, the Husky totes are the same or better for less than half the price. Do yourself a favor and go to HD and check out the Husky Professional Heavy Duty Waterproof Stackable Plastic Storage Container with Hinged Lid before you purchase these.

Light and sturdy. A great box for car camping!

I love our Gregory Alpaca gear box. We tested it to see how waterproof it was by spraying it with a garden hose. It’s totally water proof. Seeing through the top helps when we forget where we put what. The reversible hinges are so convenient. There’s a place to put a lock. Occasionally, we will put a small security chain connecting it to a picnic table at a campground to make it less likely for someone to walk off with it. I also like that it can stand on its side when we store it when not in use. The box itself is very light but still very sturdy. We’re super happy.

Organized Storage Unit

This storage box is well made. It appears to be injection molded out of polycarbonate. Its lightweight yet strong. The snap closures double as hinges, which is a very nice feature. It allows for opening the lid without completely removing it. I do a lot of camping and this is great box to organize gear in. Plus the lid is transparent so you can see what is in the box without opening it, this is a great when camping when you are searching for something, especially at night. The fit and finish are superb. It is a well made unit, I ranked it four stars because the only question I have is durability. That will take some time to determine. You could also use this as a storage box for household items. Static or on the go storage, are viable options.

Well designed gear box

I’m currently using the gear box to store my ski and snowboard tuning and waxing equipment. It works great to have it all together and in a solid well built box. The see through lid is a great idea, especially if you have multiple boxes and can glance at the top to see what’s inside. The lid is very well designed. It comes off completely or will hinge on either side for easy access. I also like that it seals to the base. I’m very happy with it and would consider getting another one for road trips and camping kitchen gear.

Great Gear Box - Stay organized and dry!

This is the best gear box I've owned. I use it for kayak and canoe camping, and to store emergency gear and random stuff in my SUV. The box is lightweight and seems very sturdy. I can pack a life vest, day pack stuffed to the max, large water bottle, a sleeping bag, tarp and other miscellaneous items inside. It even fits my two-person tent and sleeping mats. I love the lid - it really locks in place and is watertight from drenching rain and the splashing endured while boating. I suspect it would hold up well if fully emersed in water, but I haven't tested that situation yet. The lid also opens from both sides and hinges, so you have the option for the lid to stay connected or remove it completely while packing and unpacking. I appreciate having a semi-clear lid so I can easily see the contents. I'll be buying a few more of these and gifting to family members. Nice product!

Nice tote to pack and go

Sealable poly packing crate with water resistant seal and snap closure lock. Stackable. This little toy is fantastic to pack with essentials and hit the road. The short height and ability to stack is a plus.

Sturdy, Waterproof, Dust Proof Gear Box

Gregory did a wonderful job designing this gear box. Whether using the gear box to just organize your gear or taking it along on your outdoor adventures this gear box will surpass your expectations. I really like that the gear box is waterproof, dust proof and lockable. The double hinge design secures the lid tightly to the weather stripping to provide the protection of items store inside. The double hinge design also allows access from both sides of the box. Another nice feature is the clear view lid so you can see items inside without opening the box. If you want a box that offers the protection for your gear without the weight of the heavy camera / gun cases along with the organization of your gear and the ability to stack multiple boxes this Gregory gear box is for you.

Durable and many uses

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review. I use many totes in my house to store items not in use. I really like the Alpaca Gear Box for many reasons. For starters, this box is 45 liters and boasts plenty of room for a number of different items. I love that it is waterproof and dust proof, as I have pointed out the blue seal in one picture. This box is equipped with 4 hinges, meaning that it doesn't just open on one side, you can open it on either side or completely remove the cover! And the cover, guess what?! It is clear so you can see what it inside, and, it is smash-proof!! How awesome is that? I also like that there are holes on two side of the lid and box which I'm assuming are to use for padlocks. All in all this is a great gear box that is super durable and will be used for years to come.

Great for camping gear

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like that the box is hard plastic and thay the lid is a bit see though. It makes looking for what you may need easier to find. I like that It has the latches to lock the lid down and a place to pit a lock if needed. My only concern is how durable the lid would be under impact. I do think this is super nifty to store our camping gear and hope we get a lot of life out of it!.
