Temperature ratings are intended as a guideline to help you compare products, rather than a guarantee of warmth, since many different factors contribute to your comfort while you sleep. Backpacking bags are typically rated for temperature according to an independent testing protocol—currently International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 23537, though some older items followed European Norm (EN) 13537. Testing is based on a person wearing one base layer and a pair of socks, sleeping on an insulated surface with a minimum R-value of 5.38.

Each bag then gets 2 ratings: the Comfort rating is the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep the average "cold sleeper" comfortable, and the Lower Limit rating is the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep the average "warm sleeper" comfortable. Some brands determine their own temperature rating by aligning to the Comfort rating for women’s bags, to the Lower Limit rating for men’s bags, or somewhere in the middle for nongendered bags.

Two zippers are short

I bought this to replace a very only angel fire that I love but is at its life. The problem is both zippers only zip down to the waist, and only zip down so no venting. You have to have your lower body mummied. You can’t sleep with it like a blanket or stick a leg out if its warm. But this is only a 25 degree bag. I think this style would be more suited for a 0 degree that you’d never use unmummied.

So Cozy!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this sleeping bag on a recent camping trip in the Uintas, it was so cozy and the body fit is perfect. I really enjoyed the option for extra foot room with the zipper at the bottom. I also loved the extra width in the upper body for women specific bodies.

Worked perfect in Badlands

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought it just before I went to the Badlands. The first night I only used it on my feet (too warm that day), the next night it was pretty chilly and the sleeping bag worked just fine.

Be a glow worm. Buy this bag.

I finally got to try out my new sleeping bag at a 3-day music festival camping on the Cumberland Plateau. The days were warm, but the nights were damp and cold. After a day of walking miles and miles and playing way too hard, I would collapse on the folding couch too tired to move. The temperature plunged quickly after dark and the dew started to set in on everything. I am very cold-natured and my hands and feet stay cold. I broke out the new Marmot angel fire 25 that I purchased on sale from REI. It comes with a large mesh bag to keep it lofty in storage as well as a smaller stuff sack for backpacking or camping. When I pulled it out of the mesh bag it felt like a soft, fluffy cloud. I wiggled my cold self down in to that bag and zipped it up and sat up with my friends. I went from hypothermia to a green and purple glow worm. (I’m an 80’s child.) I felt like I was wrapped in a warm hug, and had I passed out on the chair and never made it to the tent I would’ve been completely comfortable. I made it back however and slept like a baby. I heard complaints about the fact that you can only unzip it half way, and that the foot zipper to expand the foot box doesn’t make much difference in the size of the foot box. The foot box doesnt get that much bigger but the extra fluff around my feet keeping it zipped up kept my feet toasty warm all night. As far as the half zip, the way I see it, if you want a blanket buy a blanket. If you want to be a warm purple glow worm, buy this sleeping bag. Would definitely recommend.
