Zipper on this broke on the first trip. Be warned, there is a very lightweight, non standard plastic zipper pull to save a few grams. Zipper is located on top, so when it breaks it is no longer warm, compared to a side zip that can be folded over your body. This is terrible design, period, and I fully expect this bag to be discontinued as it will only help to destroy a historic mountaineering brand. No way this will go 10 years like most Marmot stuff. If you do buy, test extensively while inside of the return window, time the delivery and your trip so that you will be inside of your return window when you get home with your broken $600 bag.
I'm 5-11, 140lbs. I don't have broad shoulders. I'm a back sleeper, don't move much at night, sometimes wake up in the same position I fell asleep in. This bag is perfect for me. Its snug, but I believe it will be warmer than my Nemo Riff 15 bag due to the lack of extra space in the bag. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone with broad shoulders, would be just too tight. The foot box is pretty narrow, so if you like to spread eagle a bit, don't even bother with this bag. I actually like the center zip for venting purposes, kinda like the venting gills on my Nemo bag. I don't see any issues with it snagging. I do find it a little challenging getting in and out with the short zipper, but not a show stopper. A bonus for me since I use a 20inch wide pad mummy Nemo tensor, is this will keep my arms/hands on the pad easier.
The Bantamweight bag fits a wide range of temperatures and conditions. Its a very lightweight and compact performance sleeping bag. Ive used this for multi-day alpine routes and camping in a tent. Temperatures ranged from 0 degrees to 40 degrees F. I use this bag a lot for travel to save space and weight. For very low temperatures (while climbing a big mountain for instance), I wear a jacket while sleeping. Attached is a gear testing video of the Bantamweight with an adjustable footbox. Though not included in the production model, that particular feature is included in other marmot bags.
I am 6 ‘ 4” and 250 lbs if you are thin and under 6’2” this might fit, the long was too short for me and way too tight . For the price the weight can’t be beat. I wish it fit .
I bought this sleeping bag because I thought the center-zip design was really cool. Unfortunately, I’m 6 feet tall, and even the long size felt way too tight for me to sleep comfortably. The zipper never operated smoothly, and after only about a month of use, it completely broke. Because of the way the zipper is built into the bag, it doesn’t appear to be repairable. I’ve owned it for around two months, and I’m extremely disappointed with the quality and design. only plus about it is that it looks cool.
went on a solo trip to mount whitney for two nights this past March, zipper broke trying to zip up to close. i think it’s due to being a little wide due to working out. other than that it kept me warm and surprisingly comfy, i would rate it higher if the zipper quality was better and if there was a way to zip it back on. did puncture a hole by the end of the trip
I just camped out a few nights on the Chatter Creek trail with this bag (4/25/26). Come on, even brand new it's not close to a 15 degree bag. Really it's comfortable to only about 30 degrees, below that I was squirming and hunching trying to stay warm. Also the zipper sticks every single time I try to open or close it. urg. I was hoping this would be a good bag for Mt Rainier etc but I really don't think it will be warm enough.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a very nice bag, recommended as a basic tool for all kinds of spring/summer/fall mountain adventures. I've used a bag like this (from another manufacturer, also with a half zipper) for nearly thirty years, and needed another for trips with my son. This one looks as good or better. I've also used a variety of quilts and lighter bags. These can be fine for low-altitude midsummer trips such as the Appalachian Trail south of Vermont, or minimum temperatures above 50F. However, somewhere below 50F, you want a hood. "20F" quilts of all sorts lack a hood, and aren't much lighter either. Very light weight is optimized here, with the use of a half-zipper and also a tight cut. Some people may prefer the comfort of a looser bag with a full zipper. This bag is warm enough for the occasional early-morning dip below freezing, but I would take something heavier if regular temperatures in the 20s are expected.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This my second Bantamweight bag, I'm a thru-hiker and enjoy this ultralight bag. It compresses well and it does a good job of keeping me warm when the mountain or desert temps dip below freezing. For a 7D fabric it does hold up. The middle zip is ideal for not over heating on the warmer nights.
Solid performer. Light and compact. No issues with 5 days of rain/damp gear and temps in the low 40's at night. Like the center zip, which allows arms to remain insulated while venting chest- although it does take a little wiggling to get in/out.
